Historic Ware could claim to be the premier malting town in England, where the malting industry dominated from the 17th century (the last malthouse in Ware closed in 1994). This was influenced by its position and transport to London on the River Lea. The town’s many historic buildings include The Priory.  Along with Scott’s Grotto , the largest grotto in the UK, built by the 18thcentury poet John Scott. And the famous 18th and early 19th century gazebos situated on the bank of the River Lea.  Ware also holds a regular town market.

Both the towns and their surrounding villages have a thriving community spirit, with many schools, churches and voluntary organisations. This strong sense of community will be shared throughout the pages of The Hertford and Ware Flyer.
