The Thurston and Ixworth Flyer
Nestled between the towns of Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket are the villages of Thurston and Ixworth. The Flyer has serviced these villages since 2018 with community news and information on local groups, clubs, services and trades.
The magazine is available to collect in print and for free at the post office, garage and local stores. With a readership of around 4,000, it is the leading community magazine for the people of Thurston and Ixworth.
In the early 1800s, these small farming communities made way for a major change in the landscape of the village of Thurston with a new rail line resulting in the development of the western part of the parish which has continued to grow ever since. These stunning villages are steeped in history, with Ixworth being the site of a 1st Century AD Roman fort and bath house as well as an important junction in the Roman road system of East Anglia, whilst Thurston is dotted with stately homes and Listed architecture.
Signs of early farming heritage can still be found in Thurston, but today you’re much more likely to find local businesses at Thurston Granary than agriculture and freight!
