Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine November ’26 Welcome

Letter from the Editor

The end of the year seems to be coming so quickly now. I hope your November Flyer will offer useful information and ideas of things to do as we move into a time of remembrance and then the festive season.

After remembrance services across our towns and villages, there is a jazz tribute event at Hertford Museum (11th November). The Community Christmas Tree Festival at All Saints runs from the evening of Saturday 21st November for a week, with a competition in different categories. There will be a Christmas Fair (28th November) and the Advent Carol Service (29th November) at the church.

The Hertford  Christmas Gala is on Friday 27th November, with entertainment and the light switch-on. From Friday 27th to Sunday 29th November, there will be chalets in the grounds of Hertford Castle and you may well spot Dan from I Love Hertford in one of them! The Red Lion in Stanstead Abbotts is holding a community event with an afternoon Christmas Market (28th November).

In Ware late-night shopping, stalls, live entertainment, the Leaside Christmas Tree Festival, Carols and more takes place at Dickensian evening (4th December). Followed by the Ware Choral Society Christmas Concert, with music inspired by snow (5th December).

There will be a Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church, St Margarets (5th and 6th December) and ‘Carols amidst the Christmas Trees’ (6th December at 5pm). In Hertford Heath there is the Village Winter Fayre and Preloved Sale (28th November); the Church Nativity (13th December) and the Church Carol Service (20th December). Plus, lunchtime concerts at All Saints and St Mary’s churches, as well as a  Quiz Night (14th November), Christmas Fayre (21st November) and Christingle service (6th December) at St Mary’s.

In other community news Hertford Rotary shares an update on the Club’s activities between September and December 2026. Why not say hello to them if you are visiting the Hertford Christmas Gala? They have a mulled wine and mince pie stall. The Hertford United Reformed Church offers a warm welcome with a Thursday free coffee morning, a free hot potato lunch on the second Thursday of each month, Short mat bowls on Monday mornings and Sunday morning services at 10.30am.

Congratulations to Jim, Paul and Lee from Coffee and Coping for their sponsored walk of 33.8 miles! £3500 was raised, with every penny helping them to continue supporting the local community. Find out more about Coffee and Coping via Facebook; they are based in Stanstead Abbotts. We also hear from Isabel Hospice who is challenging everyone to swap at least one new purchase for something preloved this Christmas. Every purchase helps fund Isabel Hospice care for local people and their families across eastern Hertfordshire.

We have a report from Community Alliance Broxbourne and East Herts about their recent autumn conference, which I was pleased to be able to attend. Plus, I’ve written an article about the ‘People’s Emergency Briefing’ film and discussion event which I attended in Hertford.

As a regular to the Amwell View School’s Charity Shop it’s incredible to discover it is celebrating 10 years! Cheryl and the team are always so friendly and supportive. Cheryl says thank you to the “amazing volunteers” and “to all of our customers…from me to you, thank you!”

I hope you enjoy your magazine and thank you for your support.

With best wishes
