Thousands of people attended the Stowmarket Food & Drink Festival to celebrate locally and regionally produced food and drink.

Stowmarket town centre was bustling with over 70 stalls, including wood fired pizza, bagels, chicken burgers, Goan curries, Mexican wraps, homemade fudge, locally distilled gin and much more – All of which proved to be popular amongst visitors.

Live music organised by John Peel Centre played in the Market Place giving visitors the chance to enjoy their food and drink in the sunshine whilst soaking up the festival atmosphere.

Families visited the Food Museum to relax in the museum grounds whilst sampling some of the Beers and Ales on offer at the Festival of Beer and Brewing. The Kitchen Theatre was well attended with those wishing to learn some new skills and try some new dishes, with local chefs, including Adam Spicer, the head chef from Retreat East showcasing their culinary skills by preparing dishes using seasonal ingredients.  There were several over whelming popular children’s activities which included a children’s campfire, Pottery sessions and bread making sessions.

Families gathered at Red Gables to see our animal world petting zoo and to support many of the fun interactive charity stalls, And Stowmarket library held a fun ‘Popcorn’ crafting session throughout the day.

From The Mayor

In the short space I’ve been Mayor so much has happened. It’s only when you become Mayor that you fully appreciate the fantastic range of events that happen across the town. There are just so many community groups, volunteers, charities etc all with the aim of improving life for the residents of our town. It really is quite humbling to be a small part of promoting some of these.

One of the most important duties of a Mayor is supporting the civic events that happen both within the town, and the county as a whole. It’s been an honour to represent the town at several events. My wife and I have attended several Civic Services, I was proud to represent Stowmarket at the Suffolk Day celebrations in Ipswich, the Armed Forces Day event in Stowmarket. My Civic Service will be held at the Stowmarket Parish Church of St Peter and St Mary’s on the 1st October 2023 at 2.00pm. You’ll be made very welcome.

A highlight for us was the Stowmarket Food and Drink Festival which was a tremendous success, and my thanks go to all the staff at the Town Council for making the event so successful. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying everything on offer at all the different venues across the town.
