The Newmarket Flyer October ’24 Update

Did you know that Newmarket now has its own cinema?

After many years since the last cinema closed its doors Newmarket Charitable Foundation, NOMADS and Abbeygate Cinema joined forces to open up Kings Cinema in the Kings Theatre in Fitzroy Street. The idea was born after the success of the Moving Cinema’s visit to town in 2023 on the town Severals. The theatre was then equipped with a state of the art sound system, projector, cinema screen and a new kiosk whilst retaining all its traditional charm.
The Kings Theatre, which was originally a Victorian schoolhouse, has been home to NOMADS (Newmarket Operatic Musical and Dramatic Society) for over 75 years and they are still producing wonderful performances and experiences for Newmarket. During the periods when shows are being put on such as Panto and Open Mic Night the cinema packs away and the Theatre returns to its original purpose.
With the support and expertise of Abbeygate Cinema, Kings launched in April this year and has been finding its place in town with a growing membership and great support from the local residents. We have had wonderful turnouts for screenings so far of Wicked Little Letters, Twisters, NT Live: Prima Facie and Deadpool and Wolverine. And as Autumn begins we hope to see lots more new faces coming through the doors to see screenings of Wicked, Gladiator 2, Paddington in Peru, Moana 2 . Plus with Christmas not too far away we have some wonderful festive performances lined up to celebrate the season such as Andre Rieu’s Christmas concert: Gold and Silver, The Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker and Cinderella.
We also offer private hire of the cinema, which is perfect for birthdays, Christmas parties and celebrations. To find out more about what other exciting screenings we have on, keep an eye out for our regular listing in the local paper, on our website www.kingscinema.co.uk and on Facebook.
Open from Wednesday to Sunday and showing a variety of films, ranging from new releases to screenings from the Royal Opera and National Theatre. Enjoy your cinema experience with a drink from our licensed bar, or a treat from our kiosk. After all, what’s a cinema without popcorn!
Our friendly front of house team are ready to welcome you and do anything they can to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. Pop down to grab a leaflet, a glass of wine or to check out our facilities. We look forward to seeing you!
