Newmarket is a market town in Suffolk, It is generally considered the birthplace and global centre of horse racing and according to Wikipedia a potential world heritage site. It is the largest racehorse training centre in Britain, the largest racehorse breeding centre in the country, home to most major British horseracing institutions, and a key global centre for horse health. Two classic races are held at Newmarket every year. The town has had close royal connections since the time of James I, who built a palace there, and was also a base for Charles I, Charles, and most monarchs since. Queen Elizabeth II visits the town often to see her horses in training.
Its not all about Horseracing as the town boasts a wide selection of eateries and independent as well as chain stores. With its station on the Ipswich – Ely line and sitting just off the main A14 arterial road it is greatly situated within easy reach of other major towns like Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge.
It is also home to the Newmarket sausage! this is a pork sausage made from a traditional recipe. The three varieties of Newmarket Sausage are Musk’s, Powters and Eric Tennant Butchers, all varieties have won several awards and in October 2012 the Newmarket sausage was awarded protected geographical Indictor status with the EU.
