The Newmarket Flyer July ’26 Update

Newmarket Community Cinema

Song Sung Blue (12)

Based on the inspiring and tragic true story of Mike and Claire Sardinia, a Milwaukee husband-and-wife duo who built a devoted following as a Neil Diamond tribute band called “Lightning and Thunder”.
The film chronicles their passionate, roller-coaster romance, their musical ambitions and how they overcome devastating personal hardships using music as their anchor
The comment on one website is: “Song Sung Blue mostly avoids becoming a mere cover of the documentary on which it’s based thanks to Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson’s heartfelt performances”.
The film also stars Ella Anderson and is being shown on Monday 20th July.

Shirley Valentine (15)

Shirley’s life has settled into an unsatisfying rut. Her children are grown up, her husband is emotionally distant and she spends her days preparing his nightly meals, often speaking to the kitchen wall out of sheer loneliness.
Everything changes when her friend Jane wins an all-expenses paid trip to Greece for two and invites Shirley. After facing doubts and judgement from those around her, Shirley leaves a note for her husband: “Gone to Greece — back in two weeks”.
The inevitable holiday romance follows, except that instead of saying goodbye and going back home at the end of the fortnight Shirley decides to stay in Greece and get a job.
The film stars Pauline Collins, Tom Conti and Julia McKenzie, and is being shown on Monday 17th August.
Both films will be screened at The Stable in Newmarket High Street (opposite Boots) at 7.30 p.m., with free refreshments from 6.45 p.m. Tickets (£7) on the door. Sub-titles shown on request (as long as they are on the DVD).
Newmarket Community Cinema is open to all; no membership required.
