Hidden away in beautiful Suffolk woodland, Thorington Theatre has become one of the region’s most magical and talked about entertainment venues. Built inside a genuine WWII bomb crater, this remarkable open-air theatre offers visitors a truly unforgettable experience surrounded by nature.

The 380-seat wooden amphitheatre was carefully constructed using sustainably coppiced chestnut timber sourced directly from the surrounding woodland, helping create a venue with an incredibly small carbon footprint. The natural bowl shape of the crater meant there was no need for major excavation work, while many trees have been left growing naturally amongst the seating areas, adding to the atmosphere and charm of this unique setting.

Since opening, Thorington Theatre has quickly established itself as a major cultural attraction in Suffolk, welcoming theatre companies, actors, comedians and musicians from across the UK throughout its summer season. Last summer alone, the theatre hosted around 60 performances and entertained more than 12,000 visitors.

Whether you enjoy live music, comedy, drama or family entertainment, there is something special about watching a performance beneath the trees as daylight fades into evening. Visitors often describe the venue as magical, peaceful and unlike anywhere else they have experienced.

Thorington Theatre is situated on Stonehouse Farm, a regenerative organic nut farm, and sustainability remains at the heart of everything it does. The ethos behind the theatre reflects the same environmentally conscious approach used across the farm itself — working with nature, protecting the landscape and creating something that future generations can continue to enjoy.
