News From Woodbridge Riverside Trust

The Talk Collection

Have you heard about the Talk Collection?  The second in this new series of stimulating and varied talks, with the intriguing title ‘My Life as a Forensic Scientist’, captured the attention of a large and appreciative audience in the Longshed in August.  David Pryor has had a fascinating career at Scotland Yard and in the Home Office, where he was involved in many high-profile cases.

With Talk number three, on 10 September, we’re back closer to home when Paul Mortimer will be speaking about ‘Remaking Sutton Hoo’. The talk will be about some of the things that have been learned from recreating the items from Mound One at Sutton Hoo. These include the shield, the sword, the Stone, the gold and garnet cloisonné jewellery and the helmet. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, at the shop or at the door. https://www.eventbrite.com/o/woodbridge-riverside-trust-67116559063.  For more information about future talks in this series, please go to: https://www.woodbridgeriversidetrust.org/wrt-talks-collection/.

Sae Wylfing

The beautiful Sae Wylfing, half-size replica of the Sutton Hoo ship, has been undergoing repair work to make her watertight. She has been a perennial attraction both here in Woodbridge and on her many travels round the country  and it will be good to see her restored to good health again soon.

Volunteers

The Riverside Trust has a fantastic team of volunteers who help on a daily basis in roles such as manning the shop, explaining what’s on offer from the Trust, showing visitors round the exhibitions in the gallery – in particular telling the story of the magnificent King’s River Tapestry panels on show there.  On one of the few sunny Saturdays in July, Nancy Clay hosted an afternoon tea party for volunteers in her gorgeous garden, complete with cucumber sandwiches and strawberries and cream. If you’d like to be part of this great team, please contact info@woodbridgeriversidetrust.org for more information on how to get involved.

Education

As part of its mission to provide educational support to local schools and the community and expanding on the successful Follow the Ship programme, the Trust is looking into ways of providing further opportunities and activities both for children and adults. Watch this space…
