News From Woodbridge Riverside Trust

She’s back!

Thanks to repair work by Woodbridge Boatyard, ‘Sae Wylfing’ is back home with the Riverside Trust. The half-length model of the famous burial ship was built 30 years ago and was in need of some TLC. Among other things, the boatyard has replaced eight long lengths of plank from her mid-section, so she is ready to go back on the water at Whisstocks Quay for a short time before winter sets in.

Follow the Ship

Planning for the Autumn term presentation of this extremely popular education programme is being offered to schools across the region and elsewhere. Confirmed dates are 6-7 November and 13 November in the Longshed. Six sessions will be spread over the morning and afternoon.  These events are a collaborative effort from Woodbridge Riverside Trust and the Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company.

The next talk in the Collection is on Saturday, 25 November at 3.00 p.m. in the John Gibbins Gallery, the Longshed. The 3rd Leiston Works Railway Model Railway Show

Building on the incredible success of their last two very popular model railway shows, the Leiston Works Railway (LWR) are delighted to announce the date for The Third Leiston Works Railway Model Railway Show, which is taking place on Sunday 3rd December 2023.

Once again the family friendly show is taking place at the Sizewell Sports and Social Club in Leiston (postcode IP16 4JX).

The show will be in the main hall of the venue and will be open from 10.00am until 4.00pm.

In the hall there will be a selection of various gauge model railway layouts from different eras of railway history. The LWR will also take the opportunity to bring everyone up to date, with an exhibition showing the progress that has been made so far with the project. Also available, to help with LWR funds, will be model railway items, railway books and magazines to purchase at reasonable prices.

A very popular addition to the last Model Railway Show, especially enjoyed by the children, was the early ‘Playmobil’ Railway Layout from the 1980’s, complimented by Playmobil accessories. The LWR are pleased to welcome this layout back to the Show and to fire up the children’s imagination, the layout will take on the look of a magical winter wonderland. Children will be able to take control of the trains on the layout (under the supervision of adults). Also, if you are thinking of building your own model railway, Orwell Model Railways from Ipswich will be having a stand at the show, selling various items. Perhaps a good opportunity to buy a christmas present for the railway Modeller in your family!

The previous LWR Model Railway Shows have proved to be very popular with visitors and exhibitors alike.

As the railway show is taking place on a Sunday, why not combine the visit to also take advantage of the popular carvery lunches that the Sizewell Club will be serving on the day. Beverages will also be available to purchase throughout the day during the model railway show.  (Please note: The Sizewell Club restaurant is completely independent of this LWR event.)

Admission to the show is £4.00 per adult, with children under the age of 16 getting in for free.

Free car parking is available at the venue. The address of the Sizewell Sports and Social Club is King Georges Avenue, Leiston, Suffolk. IP16 4JX.

For more details about the show please contact 07769 906 035. You can also follow the progress of the LWR on the Leiston Works Railway Facebook page.

The Leiston Works Railway look forward to seeing you there!

Please note: The LWR cannot be held responsible for the unavailability of any model railway exhibit or exhibitors on the day.

Do you own a model railway that you have been painstakingly building? Have you ever considered showing it at a model railway show? If so, the Leiston Works Railway would like to hear from you, so that they can get in touch for future model railway shows. Please contact the LWR on the telephone number above.
