Melton Parish Council

Bus Stop Audit
Melton Parish Council has recently completed an audit of all 27 bus stops in the parish, checking the information displayed at each location.
The aim is to ensure residents, workers and visitors have access to accurate, up-to-date bus information. While most stops have timetable cases, some are missing them, others require repair or replacement, and several contain outdated information.
The Parish Council’s aim is to provide current printed timetables at every stop. We will work with Suffolk County Council, which is responsible for providing timetable cases, and with bus operators, who are responsible for supplying up-to-date timetable information.
The main bus operator in Melton is First Bus. A new Tesco shopper bus service began in September, operated by CATS (Community Accessible Transport Service). The Parish Council installed timetables at all stops served by this route on behalf of CATS.
First Bus also provides a useful phone app showing bus times and the location of buses on service routes.
Suffolk County Council has installed real-time information screens at selected key bus stops, showing how long it will be before a bus arrives. The Parish Council is currently discussing with the County Council’s public transport team whether similar screens could be provided in Melton.
Reporting Highway Problems
Did you know that you can report highway problems directly to Suffolk County Council? This includes potholes, blocked drains, damaged signs, obstructions and other highway issues.
To report a problem:
1. Visit the Suffolk Highways Report It map and select Continue.
2. Find the location using the road name, parish or postcode, or the location button.
3. Place the pin accurately where the problem is.
4. Select Report a Problem and provide details about the issue and its seriousness.
5. Submit your report.
If you provide an email address, Suffolk County Council will send you a reference number and updates. You can also check existing reports on the map.
Before reporting, click ‘Show Key’ to see the status of problems already reported. If the same issue has already been reported, there is no need to submit another report.
Important: If a highway problem presents an immediate danger to public safety, do not use the online reporting system. Call 0345 606 6171 instead.
