Ickworth church news – By John Porter
We had a great day on Friday the 14th when our local MP, Jo Churchill paid a visit to see the church and to meet with the Marquess of Bristol, she was so interested in every aspect whilst walking through. She had lots of questions and was determined to see every possible part including the vault where over five hundred years of family are buried. As time evaporated she was pleased to be asked to stay for our presentation at 11am.
Ickworth church news August
Last October I was installed as the Worshipful Master of the Abbot Baldwin Lodge and it is the Master’s privilege to choose the charities that he wants to support during his year, I found this easy as the two charities closest to me are the Alzheimer’s Society and Ickworth Church. My father was diagnosed
with Alzheimer’s and spent the last eight years of his life slowly progressing into someone that I did not recognise, in fact on my last visit I walked past him as I didn’t even recognise him.
It was a great pleasure to be able to present a cheque for £1,450 to Bill Butcher, the local Dementia Friends Ambassador for the Society Ickworth Church was also an easy choice as since its reopening on 29th June 2013 I have been responsible for raising funds to help keep the church stable, as we get no finance from either the Diocese or the National Trust, so it gave me great pleasure to be able to present a similar cheque to Lord Frederick, the Marquess of Bristol.
There were about thirty people present, being brethren from the lodge and their wives and partners, and volunteers from the church.
