The Aquarius Singers stride forth!

After an incredible year of celebrating their 25th anniversary, The Aquarius Singers are now looking ahead to an exciting new autumn and winter season.
But first, a moment for reflection. The singers began their celebrations last September by sharing an anniversary cake. They then rounded things off by hosting a very special summer tea party in July, where they were joined by Musical Directors and members past and present. It was a truly memorable afternoon of laughter, friendship and a shared pride in the longevity of the choir through good times, as well as the not so good during the Covid lockdowns.
In between these celebrations the choir performed three concerts, which included John Rutter’s A Ceremony of Carols, Fauré’s Requiem and a summer afternoon of music in the picturesque Ickworth Park. From the proceeds of these concerts they have donated over £1500 to local charities.
And so onwards. The Aquarius Singers are now looking forward to rehearsing for their autumn performance, which will include, amongst other pieces, Karl Jenkins’ Adiemus – Songs of Sanctuary. This concert will be held at All Saints Church, Park Road, IP33 3QW at 7.00pm on Sunday the 12th of October.
Adiemus was recently performed at the Royal Albert Hall and recorded by Classic FM as part of their “Live with Viking” series. It was conducted by Karl Jenkins and performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Orchestra Chorus.
The Aquarius Singers’ rendition will, of course, be on a more modest scale. Having said that, the haunting harmonies, derived from gospel and African music with a Celtic twist, will surely capture the audience when performed by these female voices in four-part harmony.
As in previous concerts, this performance will also include something for everyone, with a further selection of songs ranging from musical theatre through to American classics. Their Musical Director, Nicholas Sheehan, has also included “When I Sing” by Ben Henderson, which was appropriately commissioned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus. Twenty-five years of singing for any choir is worthy of recognition!
