Coming soon from your local authors …

Fancy some brand-new stories from your favourite Suffolk authors? Here are the books to look forward to in 2025!

Crime

The seventh book in Michelle Kidd’s gripping DI Jack MacIntosh series will hit the shelves in early summer. Catch up on the series so far at joffebooks.com and discover your new favourite detective! For crime with a local setting, check out Michelle’s DI Nicki Hardcastle mysteries set in Bury St Edmunds – and look out for a new book in the series later in 2025.
Suffolk crime writer Lisa Askham is launching the sequel to her first novel, ‘Thaw’, early in 2025. Good news for all her readers who can’t wait to continue the story, and great news if you’re looking for a new reading obsession! Start now with ‘Thaw’, and you’ll be ready when the second book is published. Follow Lisa on Facebook for more updates in her work.

Historical Fiction

Out now, ‘Norfolk Boy’ by Dennis A Roberts follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of Isaac, an aspiring young jockey from Norfolk who finds himself wrongly accused of a crime, and punished with transportation to Australia. “Inspired by an entry I read in the records of the penal colony of Port Arthur, Tasmania,” Dennis explains, “‘Norfolk Boy’ is a story I have always wanted to write. It tells of hope and injustice, of intrigue and frustration, of growth, truth and new beginnings. I loved the research that allowed me to weave fact into fiction.” Visit bookguild. co.uk for more information.

Poetry

In the spring, look out for SoapBox Spoken Word’s first ever print anthology, with a focus on poems to be spoken out loud. Contributors from East Anglia – both emerging and professional writers – will be joined by special guests from across the UK. The money raised from the anthology will kickstart a series of exciting new community projects run by SoapBox in 2025. Find your new favourite poem to read out loud, and support the Eastern Region’s first Community Interest Company dedicated to the spoken word. Find more information at www.getonthesoapbox.co.uk.
