The Stansted Flyer Magazine September ’25 Update and Welcome
Letter from the Editor
As we move gently into the autumn season, there’s plenty of information, things to do and inspiration in your September Flyer, for this month and beyond.
Why not find out more about the Hundred Parishes Society? As well as their free walking routes they also have details about local things to do – their website is a useful source of inspiring and practical information. The Saffron Walden Museum has free admission (13th and 14th September), as well as a free Ukrainian Traditional Arts and Culture event (13th September), as part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days.
The Open Day at the Gardens of Easton Lodge is ‘Apple and Bees Day’ (21st September) and the Gardens will also remain open on Thursdays until the end of October; I always enjoy visiting there. At St Mary’s Church there are two music events, Post Floyd Dream (Pink Floyd tribute band – 27th September) and Brentwood Mac (Fleetwood Mac tribute band – 4th October). The Millers, who’ve been working hard on the summer Fete, now share news about the next Open Days, pay a special tribute to Molly and Geoff, and let us know their next big fundraising event will be Santa at the Mill!
The Autumn Art and Photography Exhibition at St Mary’s Church in Great Dunmow (11th and 12th October) involves both the Dunmow Art Group and the Dunmow Photography Club. Plus, Daisy May’s Farm invites us to make a September visit. Don’t miss out on all these varied activities!
In charity and community news we hear from Claire, who has been raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in Great Dunmow for years. On this 25th anniversary of ‘The Cafe Opposite the Alley’ (26th September) there will be coffee/tea, cakes, raffle and good company and the event is dedicated to Lawrence (Lawrie). St Clare Hospice is holding its ‘Walking in Memory’ 5K event (14th September) in Saffron Walden and Let’s Talk, Stansted! highlights its Wellbeing Festival (5th October) at St. Johns Church and Hall. World Mental Health Day will be celebrated on the 10th October.
Local club and group news includes an update from Stansted Mountfitchet u3a about “u3a Week” (20th to the 28th September) which celebrates the learning, activity, and fun happening across the u3a movement. As well as a monthly meeting (18th September), there’s an annual concert by the Stansted u3a Singers at St John’s Church (4th October). Final’s Day is on Saturday 13th September at Stansted Tennis Club and everyone is welcome to come and watch and enjoy refreshments. Tennis coaching, both junior and adult, starts up again in September.
Stansted in Bloom reports on the visit by the Anglia in Bloom judges in July; the results will be known at the Awards Day (4th September), so look out for the details in your October issue! Newport and District Flower Club share club news and visitors are always welcome to their meetings. The Herts and Essex Boundary Flower Club tell us members took in a competitive show on the theme “A Summer Tea Party”. Congratulations to everyone who took part. Visitors are also always welcome at their meetings. All these charity and community groups would be pleased to hear from you.
With school news as well, we hope you enjoy reading your Flyer and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
