The Stansted Flyer Magazine October ’25

Welcome to the Stansted Flyer magazine October ’25 edition. Amongst the community news and local events in this magazine issue there’s a great choice of things to do. With many events coming up, alongside your community news, this is a full issue as usual.

The Stansted Flyer Magazine October ’25 Update and Welcome

Letter from the Editor

Welcome to your October issue, packed with community information and activities. I hope we can all make the most of this time of year and there’s plenty of inspiration from The Hundred Parishes Society for walking routes. Plus, don’t forget that our clocks go back on Sunday 26th October.

Things to do include events at Stansted library, ranging from knit and natter to digital IT share support to baby and toddler rhymetime, and there’s a new exhibition “Pooch” at Saffron Walden Museum (from Saturday 25th October) exploring the history, science and culture of our best friends. Plus, during ‘Get Online Week’ (20-26th October) Bishop’s Stortford library is holding a range of events, for all ages, on selected dates.

Let’s Talk, Stansted! tells us about World Mental Health Day in October and its Wellbeing Festival early in the month, as well as the weekly Muddy Walkers group meeting and the Veg Shed! Lynda from St Mary’s church invites us all to a special service to mark the 35th anniversary of St Mary’s not being used for regular worship (1st November, 3pm). The Millers update us on a successful summer Fete and thank everyone who helped at it and supported the event. The final open day of the year is early in October after which preparations will be underway for Santa at the Mill, more details to follow!

Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council have news about their Remembrance Sunday service on Sunday 9th November, with a parade down Chapel Hill to the Memorial Gardens and the service at the memorial gardens led by Rev’d Helen Flack from St John’s Church. There will be refreshments in the church hall after the service for anyone who would like to join them.

Do you enjoy photography? Following the success of local photographer Dale Crowson’s 2025 calendar, the Stansted Calendar for 2026 will celebrate the village and raise funds for local projects. The subject of the competition is ‘We Love Stansted’ and the details and closing date are inside.

Stansted Mountfitchet u3a has launched three new interest groups, and highlights information shared by recent speaker Paul Chambers, founder of Touchpoint, about the diverse work of this community organisation. We have tournament results from Stansted Tennis Club and Stansted Bowls Club; information from Sustainable Stansted about the findings of the study of Stansted’s natural resources; Stansted in Bloom’s report on the presentation of the 2025 Anglia in Bloom awards and Takeley Rotary Club’s report on their summer Open Gardens. The Takeley Rotary Club has also awarded Maureen Best a Paul Harris Fellowship for her work in steering its beginning, and as its first and third President.

Human Roots tells us they have donated to TouchPoint (so far) over 70kg of produce and their aim is to put a bit back into the community; new volunteers are welcome. Uttlesford Foodbank invites the local community to get behind Food Bank Fortnight (from 1st to the 14th October), to help tackle rising food poverty – you can download the free BanktheFood app and search for Uttlesford Foodbank.

St Clare Hospice calls for more people to become Compassionate Neighbours to help tackle loneliness among some of Uttlesford’s residents. They urgently need more volunteers. You can find out more about all these local groups, charities and activities inside your magazine.

I hope you enjoy your Flyer and thank you for your support.

With best wishes
