The Stansted Flyer Magazine November ’26 Update and Welcome

Letter from the Editor

The end of the year seems to be coming so quickly now. I hope your November Flyer will offer useful information and ideas of things to do as we move into a time of remembrance and then the festive season.

Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council tells us the Remembrance Sunday service will be taking place on Sunday 8th November and refreshments will be provided in the church hall after the service for anyone who would like to join them. Other events ahead include ‘Dreams: An Autumn Recital Concert’ by The Harmonaires (21st November) at St John’s Church; The festive Elsenham Farmers Market (28th November), with all proceeds to their local charities and The Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra concert inspired by whales (29th November) at Saffron Hall marking the finale of the orchestra’s 70th anniversary year.

The Bishop’s Stortford Christmas Fayre is on Saturday 5th December, with plenty to do for all the family, with stalls, music, entertainment and Santa. Santa at the Mill (12th December) is back again, with full details next month. Although there are no more Mill open days until Easter they are happy to show people around the mill by private arrangement as well as Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, school parties and groups of adults, so please email info@stanstedwindmill.co.uk if you’re interested. Plus, Daisy May’s Farm in Elsenham reminds us they are getting ready for the festivities; their special events help raise enough funds to feed and look after their animals throughout the winter. Also, don’t forget to pop into your local library to discover the latest events and activities happening there!

In charity news Toe Beans Cat Rescue say they’re heading into one of their busiest seasons and they will be taking part in Saffron Walden Late Night Shopping (4th December) with a Bottle Tombola to raise much-needed funds. Mimi, a beautiful young cat who is healthy, vaccinated, neutered and full of affection, is in their care and still waiting for the right family to find her. St Clare Hospice is asking for volunteers in its shops, particularly seasonal volunteers who can spare a few hours over the festive period, as well as weekend volunteers throughout the year.

Other community updates include Memory Lane Café at TouchPoint in Stansted, a relaxed and welcoming space for people living with dementia, and their loved ones and carers. It takes place on Monday mornings at Crafton Green House. We also hear about the TouchPoint Garden with work progressing well on improvements to the terrace area and the Garden continues to be a much-loved community space. Stansted Tennis Club shares the details about the winners of its Tournament Finals Day in September, organised each year by Daphne. The Club also talks about the recipient of the Ollie Toms award for most improved player. Stansted Mountfitchet u3a tells us the Gardening group visited Chelsea Physic Garden, London’s oldest botanic garden, established in 1673. Also, that there is a Saturday Seminar with Cambridge Lecturer Dr Christine Corton on Dickens’ life, particularly David Copperfield. We also have your regular school news inside your magazine.

Finally, if you enjoy taking photos there’s still time to enter the Essex Wildlife Trust photography competition – up to the 30th November! I hope you enjoy your magazine and thank you for your support.

With best wishes
