The Stansted Flyer Magazine July ’26 Update and Welcome
Letter from the Editor
Welcome to your July issue. It’s full of local events and community information to help you make the most of the summer!
You may be interested in visiting the Saffron Walden Museum with its summer holiday activities and the Sir David Attenborough exhibition (on until the 6th September). At your local library you can discover all the events and activities taking place which include this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
A Discovery Day is on at the Gardens of Easton Lodge (12th July) plus the Gardens are open every Thursday. At Hatfield Forest Pinocchio (10th July); The Tale of Peter Rabbit (6th August) and The Three Musketeers (5th September) are all happening. The Windmill Fete takes place on Monday 31st August. If you are interested in supporting or volunteering, please do get in touch. Plus, there’s a summer choral concert by the Harmonaires Choir at St John’s Church if you see this in time.
Thank you to Lynda for updating us on the Renewal of Promise service for the Stansted Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, which was hosted by St Mary’s. Lynda says: “With 115 people attending, the church was full of lovely singing, and we also got to hear from them about their year in scouting. Special thanks to the Scout leaders and my team of volunteers for all the help.”
In charity news we hear from Support 4 Sight about a free exhibition (21st July, Harlow Playhouse, Studio 2) with the opportunity to explore a wide range of assistive equipment, technology, and support services designed to help people living with sight loss. A Summer Garden Party recently took place by the Saffron Walden Almshouse Charity and has raised £7,485 towards the project to build affordable, accessible, eco-friendly homes in Saffron Walden. The Charity extends its warmest thanks to all who attended and supported the occasion.
Clavering resident Doug (81) is raising vital funds for St Clare Hospice – the charity that cared for his wife Sue at the end of her life – by creating bespoke pastel portraits for pet owners. Doug said: “My family and I were so grateful for the incredible end-of-life care provided by St Clare Hospice for Sue.” To find out more about this inspiring fundraising activity, why not look inside your Flyer? We have a report from TouchPoint. As part of Volunteers’ Week they hosted two free thank you sessions where the TouchPoint garden volunteers created their own planted baskets. They offer a heartfelt thank you to the gardening team and to all the 200+ volunteers across the wider charity who make their work possible.
Stansted Bowling Club has its 120th anniversary this year and is hosting three bowls tournaments. It is also currently working with Forest Hall School on a plan to brighten up the external appearance of the clubhouse and has entered Stansted In Bloom for 2026. Beginners, as well as more experienced players, are most welcome. All the groups and charities I have mentioned in my letter would be pleased to hear from you.
We also receive news about Bebe Jackson who lives in Stansted, and her incredible Para Athletic achievements. Bebe is currently working towards representing team GB in the Para Olympics in LA in 2028. I am sure we will be sharing further updates about Bebe.
Enjoy this summer issue and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
