The Stansted Flyer Magazine July ’25 Update and Welcome

Letter from the Editor

As I write your July welcome letter I can’t quite believe we’re heading to the longest school holidays, let’s hope the weather is good and we can make the most of summer! There are plenty of things to do and lots of community information inside your Flyer.

Events include the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, it takes place from Saturday 19th July until Saturday 6th September at Essex Libraries. The exhibition “Wonders: 190 years of Saffron Walden Museum” is currently on for you to explore and the museum recently held a celebration tea party to thank its volunteers. Daisy May’s Farm reminds us that you can stay in their woodland area (camping), as well as visit the Farm for a day, and if you’re interested in outdoor theatre there are shows taking place at Hatfield Forest up to early September. Plus, the Saffron Walden Carnival is on from the 4th to the 12th July.

The next Open Day at the Gardens of Easton Lodge is on Sunday 20th July and the Gardens are also open every Thursday in July. We also find out about Live at The Bandstand (Sworders Field, Bishop’s Stortford, Saturday 26th July), a free community music event. The Stansted Millers update us on recent events and remind us of their Open Days and the annual fete on August Bank Holiday Monday – another date for your diary! If you’re interested in volunteering the mill would be pleased to hear from you. Plus, Newport and District Flower Club and Herts and Essex Boundary Flower Club meet monthly and visitors are always welcome. The Newport Club has an afternoon Cream Tea and mini floral demonstration (13th August) at Ugley Village Hall.

We have a feature on farming and crops from The Hundred Parishes Society. They highlight the opportunity for us to walk amongst scenic beauty and rich agricultural heritage on their walking routes www.hundredparishes.org.uk and that includes routes 127 and 161, which pass vineyards.

Charity and local group news includes an update from Let’s Talk, Stansted! who highlight Samaritans Awareness Day, an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about the vital, round-the-clock support provided by them. It takes place on the 24th July, a reminder that its services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact the Samaritans by calling 116 123 from any phone for free. Sustainable Stansted shares information about Community Energy, can we do it here in Stansted and do you want to know more? Human Roots tells us about children from the Stansted Cub Pack who visited them to undertake a busy schedule of activities! If you belong to an organisation which could benefit from such an event, or are interested in joining Human Roots as a volunteer, they would love to hear from you. We also have an update from Stansted Tennis Club regarding competitive events and a reminder of Summer Tennis Camps and beginner tennis sessions for children and Group coached adult sessions.

Several St Clare Hospice volunteers were nominated to attend the King’s Garden Party in May, to honour the invaluable contribution that the charity’s volunteers make. All the charities and groups in your magazine would be pleased to hear from you. There is also school news inside. We hope you enjoy reading your magazine and thank you for your support.

With best wishes
