Welcome to the Stansted Flyer magazine February ’26 edition. Amongst the community news and local events in this magazine issue there’s a great choice of things to do. With many events coming up, alongside your community news, this is a full issue as usual.
The Stansted Flyer Magazine February ’26 Update and Welcome
Letter from the Editor
As we move into the second month of the year you can really notice the lengthening of the daylight hours; I always find seeing those beautiful first snowdrops very uplifting. In fact, it may be a useful reminder to say that the Gardens of Easton Lodge snowdrop open days take place in February.
There’s plenty of community news and events in your February Flyer, including a fascinating article from the Hundred Parishes Society about interesting buildings you will see on some of their free walking routes: https://hundredparishes.org.uk/walks
We also hear from St Mary’s school about the Essex Libraries Winter Reading Challenge; on until the 22nd February. Why not pop into your library? Saffron Walden Museum is planning events and activities – plus its current ‘Pooch’ exhibition is still on. There is so much to see and do in this museum! The Dunmow Art Group has artist demonstrations and painting classes this month. Non-members are welcome. Plus, Stansted Mountfitchet u3a tells us there are 37 additional groups, along with talks and visits planned for 2026. The next Saturday Seminar is from British historian Dr. Helen Fry, discussing “A Very Secret War: Bugging the Nazis in WWII” (21st February).
The Uttlesford Big Green Festival – a week of district-wide community events that highlight local sustainable projects benefiting both people and the planet, in collaboration with Sustainable Uttlesford, is in June. They would love for you to get involved: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/green-festival
In local charity news we hear from Tony, founder of the young people’s charity YOPEY, about a volunteering opportunity for 16 to 24 year olds. Moat House Care Home in Great Easton is looking for young people to visit its residents, who have so much life experience to share. You will tell them about your education or work, your hobbies, your family and friends, your future plans. They will love to share their wisdom acquired during long and varied lives. It sounds a really interesting opportunity.
Support 4 Sight has launched its 2026 Events and Activities Booklet, packed with fixtures throughout the year. If you are blind or partially sighted, or know someone that might be interested, please call 01245 933572 to receive a booklet. Plus, St Clare Hospice thanks everyone who attended the 2025 Light up a Life remembrance services, which created a space for remembrance and raised £29,500. The charity also thanks supporters of its Christmas fundraising campaign, which has surpassed its £75,000 target to fund its night-sitting service. St Clare offers a free GriefLine for anyone struggling with grief and would like someone to talk to (01279 945089).
Additionally, Stansted Bowls Club is running a number of social events, including a quiz on the 20th February. The Club says: “It would be lovely to see some new faces at these events, who knows what it may lead to?” Plus, the Human Roots team have achieved the RHS Grow Your Own Award. A fantastic recognition. They are discussing what to grow in 2026 – a bit like solving a giant puzzle fitting all the plants in the rows of beds! New members / volunteers would be warmly welcomed at all these clubs and charities.
Along with your regular school news, there’s plenty to read in this issue. Thank you very much for your support.
With best wishes
