The Stansted February Flyer Magazine ’24
Welcome to your February issue of the Stansted and Dunmow Flyer magazine. Amongst the community news and local events in this magazine issue there’s a great choice of things to do. With many events coming up, alongside your community news, this is a full issue as usual.
The Stansted Flyer Magazine February Update and Welcome
Welcome to your February 2024 Flyer; we have all the usual community news, information and events for you inside. With the daylight slowly increasing, snowdrops should be coming out to add a welcome burst of early colour to our landscape (in fact, the Gardens of Easton Lodge have several snowdrop Open Days which sound tempting to visit) Also, if you like them, I hope you can enjoy some pancakes this month!
Things to Do Stansted February
Looking for ideas of things to do? There are half term craft activities for children at Saffron Walden Museum; Warm Welcomes for everyone at your local library (why not enjoy a cuppa there while reading a book or having a chat; there’s plenty to do for all ages); a charity rock concert on the 2nd March taking place at Foakes Hall; the u3a updates us on some of its many groups and always welcomes new members and if you feel like wrapping up and getting out, there’s a huge choice of self-guided walking routes here: www.hundredparishes.org.uk/walks My family and I always enjoy their walks.

News from local groups includes an update from the Herts and Essex Boundary Flower Club, set up 65 years ago and still going strong. To celebrate this anniversary the Club has a wide range of activities planned for 2024, they would love to welcome you as a visitor. We also hear from the Stansted Scouts, who slept outside in the Scout HQ grounds in cardboard boxes.
They started the evening with a powerpoint presentation on causes and effects of homelessness followed by a brief discussion. It was planned as a winter activity and it seemed very insightful. In addition, TouchPoint has been chosen as this year’s beneficiary of the annual Flagship Grant from the Stansted Airport Community Fund. They organise a variety of regular community activities, projects and services and they have more planned!

In other charity updates we have news from the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity centre in Essex. They collected almost 800 Christmas trees and raised around £15,000. This money will be used to help support local people living with cancer. They now have a wide range of fundraising events you can get involved in during 2024 if you’re interested! St Clare Hospice tells us it has partnered with the MND Association at its weekly Café Clare coffee morning; people are welcome to drop in for a chat and support over a hot drink. We also hear from the Danaher Animal Home about two bonded older kittens who are looking for their new home – do you know anyone who could help? Why not find out more about all these charities and groups inside your Flyer; they would be very pleased to hear from you.
The Uttlesford Community Action Network – www.facebook.com/uttlesfordCAN – shares some very useful information about ways to help stay warm and well this winter, plus you can call the Community Response Hub on 03333 408218 Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.
Also, as usual, we have local education news for you. So do enjoy catching up with all this community information and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
