The Stansted Flyer Magazine December ’25 Update and Welcome
Letter from the Editor
Welcome to your December issue, which I hope during this very busy time, is a useful source of community information to navigate these next few weeks!
We are reminded about Santa at the Mill, the Elsenham Community Choir Christmas Choral Extravaganza and the St Mary’s Church Christmas Tree festival (which also includes a concert and carols). Additionally, there are carols at St John’s church by the Harmonaires Choir (13th December), with a retiring collection for the charity Crisis.
Daisy May’s Farm in Elsenham has its Christmas festivities, with a variety of things to see and do in the run up to Christmas – all monies raised go back into the farm’s winter feed fund. Plus, Hatfield Forest has a health and wellbeing event “Breathwork in the Forest” (14th December), and “Walk with Us” events, which are hour long, gentle walks around the Forest (3rd, 12th, 17th and 31st December). The walks are suitable for all abilities. Plus, the Essex Libraries Winter Reading Challenge starts in the New Year (10th January to the 22nd February 2026) and is aimed at up to age 12. However, there’s a challenge activity for adults too! All the details about these events are in your magazine.
St Clare Hospice hosts its annual Light Up a Life services at the hospice (11th December and 13th December), as well as additional services across West Essex in December. Light up a Life offers an opportunity to reflect on the lives of loved ones and celebrate the memories that live on.
Find out more here: www.stclarehospice.org.uk/light The Hospice is also bringing back its Christmas Tree Recycling Service in January, with trees collected straight from your doorstep.
Local charity and club news includes an article from Sustainable Stansted explaining that, thanks to a grant from Uttlesford’s Zero Carbon Fund, they own a Thermal Imaging (TI) camera. They can use this to check on heat escaping from your house which can help you to see the best ways to reduce or stop this heat loss. We also hear from Sustainable Uttlesford, a new organisation and website that supports and connects community eco groups across Uttlesford.
Uttlesford Food Bank is running a Christmas Appeal; they’re aiming to get a hamper of festive food to local individuals and families facing hardship. They would be grateful if you can help donate food items or money to help support this. Plus, TouchPoint is running its Christmas Gifts Appeal again, asking for people to support it with a monetary donation or to volunteer time. This follows the success of their 2024 Appeal which enabled them to support over 800 local children and families by distributing gift vouchers worth £25 each. In addition, we find out what a Day in the Life is like for Liz, Outreach and Communications Coordinator at Support 4 Sight. Liz takes a suitcase with her; intriguing!
The Stansted 2026 Calendar is now available, and within the article we received, it says: “Congratulations to the winning photographers whose images feature this year….A special thank you to Dale Crowson for his striking photographs and to everyone who submitted images…”
All of us at the Flyer would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support and to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
With best wishes
