The Stansted Flyer Magazine March ’26
Welcome to the Stansted Flyer magazine March ’26 edition. Amongst the community news and local events in this magazine issue there’s a great choice of things to do. With many events coming up, alongside your community news, this is a full issue as usual.
The Stansted Flyer Magazine April ’26 Update and Welcome
Letter from the Editor
It’s lovely to write your April welcome letter, knowing that the bluebells will be emerging as a welcome and uplifting sign of springtime. I hope you discover local events and ideas in your Flyer that will inspire you to make the most of this new season. Also, that chocolate (for those who like it) may feature over Easter and beyond!
Things to do in this month’s issue include the Mill’s first open days of this year (5th and 6th April) with an Easter Egg Hunt and face painting for the children. It’s also the first monthly Open Day of 2026 at the Gardens of Easton Lodge (12th April) plus the Gardens open every Thursday from the 2nd April. We have an update from Saffron Walden Museum with, amongst many other things, news about craft workshops over the Easter holidays and a chance to experience the museum in a new way, with scent trails and treats for your four-legged friend. In addition, Stansted, Saffron Walden and Dunmow libraries share news about events and activities coming up; why not find out more about all the possibilities inside?
In local charity and group news we have an inspiring article about Stansted teenager Layla, who is taking part in the St Clare Hospice 10K run in memory of family friend Nicky. Layla says: “Nicky was one of the strongest and most positive people I’ve ever known, and anyone who met her remembers her warmth, kindness and smile.”
Stansted Mountfitchet u3a updates us on some recent presentations – ‘Freddie’s kind of Magic’ by Danielle Barnett and a WW2 talk by Dr. Helen Fry, plus future talks will include: ’Wildlife of Britain and Europe’ by photographers Graham and Mary Brace and Mike Dodsworth on ‘The Witches of Essex’. Details can be found on their website along with information about the 40 different classes available through the u3a. Plus the Stansted Bowls Club tell us they are holding a Quiz night (17th April) as well as hosting a ‘gala’ where teams from local clubs compete for the first silverware of the outdoor season (26th April).
Other group news includes information from the Newport Cricket Club; players of all ages and abilities are welcome. Whether you’re new to the game or returning after time away, they offer short evening games as well as both league and friendly fixtures across Saturdays and Sundays. Plus, the Herts and Essex Boundary Flower Club share highlights from a recent NAFAS demonstration and tell us that visitors are always welcome. The Club meets on the first Tuesday evening of the month at the Manuden Community Centre.
We also have an article from Sustainable Stansted, who thank everyone across the village who responded to their call for sites to install swift boxes. Together, over 50 new nesting sites have been created to help boost our local swift population. This includes members of the local Fire and Rescue Service who funded two boxes now installed at Stansted Fire Station and Magna Carta Primary Academy who are hosting fourteen boxes thanks to a grant from the Essex Local Nature Recovery Fund. Although a familiar summer sight, swift numbers have declined dramatically and the species is now endangered.
We hope you enjoy your magazine and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
