Welcome to your April issue. It’s lovely to have longer daylight hours now. As always, your Flyer is packed with local community news and things to do to help make the most of this time of year.

I especially love bluebells and look forward to seeing them every year. If you also like these delicate flowers you may be interested in the two mile woodland walk from The Hundred Parishes Society that we’ve included this month. It should offer the chance to see lots of bluebells, as they make their appearance this spring! In addition to this particular walk, The Hundred Parishes Society offers many more self-guided walking routes, all freely available from its website.

Inside your magazine you’ll find details about the Mill Easter opening days (Easter Sunday and Easter Monday) with an Easter Egg Hunt on both days. They also tell us about the opportunity to sign up to be Millers and that the AGM is in April; you would be very welcome to attend.

During the Easter school holidays Saffron Walden Museum has craft activities on Wednesday and Thursday over both weeks. Daisy May’s Farm in Elsenham is open throughout with many baby animals as well as a Golden Egg Hunt – just don’t forget your wellies!

The Gardens of Easton Lodge has its first 2025 Sunday Open Day (13th April) with an opportunity for families to enjoy Easter activities, including an Egg Hunt and they’re open on Thursdays too, from the 3rd April. Hatfield Forest has a flock of rare-breed sheep and the first lambs have started to arrive. Following last year’s activity, when some of the lambs were taken down to the lake area for a “Meet and Bleat”, there are plans to do it again this year. Look online, or when you’re visiting, for more details.

Club and Group news includes Stansted Tennis Club with an update on coaching (for all ages) and after school tennis sessions. You can also find out more about the club, tournaments and social activities via their website. The Rotary in Takeley club tells us about its quiz night charity fundraiser (12th April) and that recently Rotarians were out at Stansted Airport giving support to Young Lives versus Cancer. New Rotary members are very welcome. We hear from Stansted in Bloom that an action group has been formed to try and build on their recent success in the Anglia in Bloom competition. As well as entering the overall category they hope to have projects nominated in a number of subcategories and to enter the Special Feature category, which this year celebrates 200 years of Rail Travel. Do find out more inside, it’s a fascinating article!

In charity news Support 4 Sight has a Low Vision Exhibition in Saffron Walden (29th April).  It’s an opportunity to sample a range of equipment designed to assist people with sight loss, with free entry. In addition, we hear from community group Let’s Talk Stansted! about the Muddy Walkers group every Thursday; the Veg Shed allotment and a social evening on the 29th April. Volunteers would be very welcome to join the team. Plus, we also share school news.

Thank you for your support and enjoy any chocolate you may have during Easter – I’m sure we will in our household!

With best wishes
