The Stansted July Flyer ’23

Welcome to your July issue of the Stansted and Dunmow Flyer. Amongst the community news and local events in this issue there’s a great choice of things to do. You can visit, and camp out, at Daisy May’s Farm or watch an outdoor play at Hatfield Forest.

The Stansted Flyer July Update and Welcome

Now we’re really into summer you may be planning to enjoy some picnics (it is something my family and I take the opportunity to do) Love Essex has told us it’s ‘Plastic Free July’, so there could be some interesting ideas for picnics – and much more – here: www.plasticfreejuly.org and www.loveessex.org Linked to the environment you may also like to look at the Sustainable Stansted website: www.sustainablestansted.org

News and Local Events Stansted

Amongst the community news and local events in this issue there’s a great choice of things to do. You can visit, and camp out, at Daisy May’s Farm or watch an outdoor play at Hatfield Forest. The free Summer Reading Challenge 2023 at the library, for primary school aged children with their families, is on from the 8th July to the 2nd September and there are summer holiday family craft activities and a Walden Art Trail from Saffron Walden Museum. Plus UDC has told us there’s an opportunity to sign up for free guided bike rides in Saffron Walden this month.

At St Mary’s Church there are a number of musical events with refreshments available and donations welcome and you can also admire the St Mary’s roses while you are there; they look beautiful.

The Gardens of Easton Lodge has its monthly Open Day on the 16th July, focusing on the world war history of the Gardens, plus it is open every Thursday. If you like walking, you may like to look at www.hundredparishes.org.uk/walks for some lovely walking routes? I can personally recommend them!

With proceeds going to the Dunmow Flitch Trials™ and the local foodbank there’s a Hog Roast and quiz in Foakes Hall (15th July) and plans for the Stansted Windmill August Bank holiday fete are well advanced. As well as the stalls operated by the Millers they are happy for other village organisations and charities to have a stall for a modest contribution to mill funds. Find out more about all these things to do in your magazine.

Charity News July Stansted

In charity news we hear about more than 500 St Clare Hospice volunteers who

give up their time, week in and week out, enabling the Hospice to give care that changes lives. We also receive an update from Support 4 Sight, who presented an Extra Mile certificate to Takeley Community Café for their support for blind and partially sighted people. Support 4 Sight holds a monthly Coffee Morning there; you will be sure of a warm welcome. The West Essex Inclusion Project advises us that it offers activities to children living in Uttlesford up to age 14 with a learning disability, autism and a physical or sensory impairment. What fantastic achievements across the board and more volunteer support would always be welcomed.

Are you a dog lover? Charlie is a friendly boy looking for his new home.  Why not find out more from Danaher Animal Home? Thank you to all the groups and charities who send in news, please do keep sharing your community updates with us.

Thank you very much for the entries we received for the I Love Stansted Mountfitchet writing competition (the details are inside) and this month we also have an update from Kemi Badenoch MP plus news from schools, clubs and groups. So, we hope you enjoy your packed summer issue!

With best wishes
