Letter from the Editor
Welcome to your new season Flyer. We hope September – and beyond – goes well for everyone in education and perhaps this could be the ideal time to participate in activities and events taking place this autumn?
We have a reminder about the annual High Wych Scarecrow Festival (12th and 13th September). If you see this in time, why not pop along to this special 10th anniversary event? The Rivers Heritage Orchard annual Apple Day (26th September) offers a fun filled family day out – you can even bring your mystery apple found in the corner of your garden to find out its name!
The next Repair Café Sawbridgeworth is coming up (26th September) and can you believe it has just celebrated its fourth anniversary? In that time, the group has saved 624 electricals, items of clothing and even items of sentimental value from landfill – everything from kettles to jeans to audio equipment. The Group invites you to come along, whether you have a fix to be done or not, to support their work. Other activities include Sawbridgeworth’s Air‑Mazing Saturday (3rd October), bringing the community together to mark the end of this year’s Sawbridgeworth Travel Challenge and Revd Dr Sara Batts-Neale from Great St Mary’s tells us there will be a pet blessing service (4th October, 3.00pm) where we will give thanks for our pets and bless them in God’s name.
Sawbridgeworth library reminds us about Baby Rhyme Time on Thursdays from 10.30am-11am.
Families and carers are welcome to stay after the singing which can be a great way to make new friends and socialise. There are also many other reasons to pop in to the library too!
It may be useful to add here that Bishop’s Stortford Library will be closed from Monday 14th September to Friday 25th September for a minor refurbishment. Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall also has many autumn and winter events coming up that you might be interested in!
Thank you to Hazel for her update about the Sawbridgeworth Local History Society and if you’re interested there will be a talk by crime writer and tour guide Lindsay Siviter (29th October) on the subject of “Inspector Morse” – a unique look behind the scenes of filming the TV series. We also discover that this year’s Nostalgia Day takes place on Saturday 7th November, with a service at the Airfield Memorial, a short dedication on return, afternoon entertainment
and a display and books for sale. Free entry to the event but cash donations are requested.
Revd Dr Sara Batts-Neale at Great St Mary’s; the Mayor of Sawbridgeworth, Councillor Angus Parsad-Wyatt and Chris Hunt Town Clerk, all share their updates, which includes news about the Mayor’s first Community Action Day, with plans now being made for the next one later this year. The Mayor is also pleased to announce the launch of his Christmas Card and Calendar competition. Residents are invited to submit photographs of Sawbridgeworth for use in charity Christmas cards and a calendar which we will sell in aid of the Sawbridgeworth Community First Responders. Entries close on 30th September, with full details on the ‘Mayor of Sawbridgeworth’ Facebook page.
