The Sawbridgeworth Flyer Magazine September ’25
Letter from the Editor
As we move gently into the autumn season there’s plenty of information, things to do and inspiration in your September Flyer, for this month and beyond.
Events include the Sawbridgeworth Autumn Show (13th September) at the Memorial Hall, open to visitors from 1.30pm – and there may still be time to enter if you see this beforehand! Refreshments and an art exhibition will also be at the show. Having recently celebrated its third birthday, the next Repair Café Sawbridgeworth is on Saturday 20th September. Volunteer Bill says “For me, the Repair Café is a place that fosters community spirit, reduces waste, and encourages practical skills that are too often overlooked. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Sawbridgeworth Community Library is looking for volunteers to help! Why not come in for a chat? Medals from the Summer Reading Challenge will be awarded by the Mayor on the 13th September and a new challenge is starting for reception children called My First Library Adventure.
The next meeting of the Sawbridgeworth Local History Society (25th September) involves a talk about Land Girls, Brocket Babies and Beyond. The Society will also have a stall at the High Wych Scarecrow Festival, if you see this in time (the Festival is on the 6th and 7th September).
The Rivers Heritage Site Apple Day (4th October) is a community event for all ages, with apple picking, apple cake eating, apple identification and more! Examples of children’s art will also be on display to give ideas for the Children’s (under 18) Art Competition. Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall highlights its programme of music events and performances and there will be a mystery solving event there (11th October) with proceeds to Great St Mary’s – intriguing! The Hall is a registered charity and non-profit organisation, run for the benefit of the community.
Your Sawbridgeworth Town Council community news includes informative Mayoral and Town Clerk columns and a report from Councillor Nathan Parsad-Wyatt. Families are encouraged to take part in the annual Travel Challenge Week ending with the Town Walk on Saturday 27th September. We’ve also been given a save the date for the Christmas Lights Switch-On (29th November).
In other charity and local club news Sawbridgeworth WI tells us about a recent summer competition and a talk on the women who worked in Bletchley Park during WW2. Sawbridgeworth Tennis and Pickleball Club has announced Gary Davis as new Head Coach and Renée from Isabel Hospice updates us about 12-year-old Lucy and her best friend Maddy who have raised £450.00 in memory of Lucy’s grandad. Plus, The Friends of Sawbridgeworth Neuro Centre held an event to officially open Julie’s Woodland shelter, in memory of one of the residents and kindly donated by her family. Over £500 was raised on the day. Such inspiring fundraising achievements. All these charity and community groups would be glad to hear from you.
We are pleased to share the first monthly article from Revd Dr Sara Batts-Neale, the new vicar at Great St Mary’s. She is looking forward to getting to know people and reminds us that if you’re passing the church in the mornings it’s open for you to find a peaceful refuge.
You’ll also find your regular school news inside. Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy reading your Flyer.
With best wishes
