The Sawbridgeworth Flyer Magazine November ’24
Letter from the Editor
Welcome to the November issue of your Flyer magazine. I hope you’ll find the wide range of community news articles and things to do useful, as we move closer towards the end of the year and what can often be a very busy time! If you are able to get outside this month you may be interested in the Quiet Lane Walks highlighted by The Hundred Parishes.
A number of events are coming up. Information about the annual Remembrance Day parade, wreath-laying and service at Great St Mary’s is shared within reports from the Mayor and Town Clerk. Sawbridgeworth Christmas Lights and Fayre (Saturday 30th November, from 3pm) has something for all the family, including Father Christmas, and the lights will be switched on at 6pm. The following weekend (7th and 8th December) is the Christmas Tree Festival at Great St Mary’s – there’s still time to reserve your space to provide a decorated Christmas tree. Additionally, Rotary updates us on its traditional Carols on Fair Green (6.30pm on Christmas Eve). They rely on volunteers to help steward the event and would be pleased to hear from you.
As the weather gets cooler it may be useful to know that Sawbridgeworth Community Library will be providing a warm space this winter – there’s always so much to do and read inside the library. Why not pick up your copy of ‘After the Clocks go Back 2024’ while you’re there?
We also find out about a free Cancel Out Cancer Session at Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall on Thursday 14th November, 7pm – 8pm. This is a local NHS volunteer/patient led campaign to improve people’s understanding of cancer and to encourage everyone to take action to promote their own health. The details are inside your magazine.
Charity news includes an article from the Bereavement Café. They meet every first and third Tuesday of the month at the Hailey Centre and you’ll be assured of a warm welcome. The Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall is aiming to become a digital hub; they ask if anyone might be interested in being a volunteer Digital Champion?
We also have updates from local clubs and groups. The Sawbridgeworth Local History Society shares news on its recent and forthcoming events, including Nostalgia Day; The Sawbridgeworth Evening WI report includes information about a professional wildlife photographer who gave an interesting talk and Sustainable Sawbridgeworth tells us about a recent Community ‘Veggie Feast’ night, where all the food was produced by members and supporters of this group. The recipes used are being featured in an online menu book; find out more in your Flyer! The usual school news is also included inside.
We hope you enjoy your November magazine and thank you for all your support and contributions.
With best wishes
