Welcome to your May Flyer. We have plenty of inspiration for you with community updates and things to do. I hope you can enjoy longer daylight evenings and all the wildlife around us. In fact, the Wildlife Trust’s 30 Days Wild nature challenge is in June, why not find out more about it? www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/30-days-wild
We have information about the Friends of Pishiobury Park, the Park is such a lovely place to enjoy exploring. There’s also an article from the Hundred Parishes Society and they have many free downloadable walking routes: www.hundredparishes.org.uk My family and I have enjoyed exploring some of these.
If you visited this year’s Sawbridgeworth May Fayre (or plan to, if you see this by Sunday 3rd May) we look forward to sharing news about this community event in our next issue! www.smht.org.uk/may-fayre We have a final reminder about the Big Breakfast (16th May) which is supporting Christian Aid plus find out about the Teddy Bears picnic event in the Rivers Orchard (17th May). We also discover that Sawbo Cinema, the local community cinema run by volunteers at the Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall, will be showing Sunday evening films in May and June (selected dates) – these include National Theatre Live screenings. All the details about these activities are inside your Flyer.
As well as highlighting some regular events, the Sawbridgeworth Library reminds us about its travel books for holiday ideas and about the library BorrowBox app to download ebooks and audiobooks onto your phone or other digital device so you can read or listen to a novel while relaxing on the beach. Sounds a nice idea. We also have advance notice about the Bishop’s Stortford Carnival Parade and Fun Day (20th June): www.bishopsstortfordtc.gov.uk/events/carnival-parade-and-fun-day
Local charity and group news includes event updates from Isabel Hospice, who after the Sawbridgeworth May Fayre will be at the Isabel Hospice Garden Party (5th June) by kind invitation of David and Suzy Harvey DLL at their home at Wickham Hall. Sawbridgeworth Local History Group, after the Sawbridgeworth May Fayre, will welcome Christina Harrison to their next Group meeting to speak on the history of Much Hadham Forge and highlights of its collections (28th May).
Sawbridgeworth WI share news about a new sub-group, Sisterhood Group. They’ve also told us about a recent speaker, Rob Brewer, who after retiring from the police eventually found himself on numerous film sets! Sustainable Sawbridgeworth has information about Sawbridgeworth remaining a critically water-stressed area and has details of a free water literacy course from Waterwise which offers home water saving measures. You can book this course here: www.waterliteracy.uk
Thank you very much to Cllr Salvatore Pagdades, the town Mayor, for his monthly reports. In this May issue he sends us his final Mayoral report, saying thank you and sharing many highlights, and says: “As I come to the end of my mayoral year, I do so with a deep sense of pride and optimism for Sawbridgeworth. I encourage everyone to continue getting involved, supporting local initiatives, and playing their part in our community. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor.”
As well as your monthly article from Revd Dr Sara Batts-Neale we also have school community news inside. Thank you for your support and enjoy your magazine.
