The Sawbridgeworth Flyer Magazine March ’26
Letter from the Editor
Welcome to your March Flyer. As we move gradually into early spring and then Easter time (which is early this year), it’s lovely to see more flowers appearing and to know our clocks change to British Summer Time on Sunday 29th March!
Community updates and events this month include information about the recent planting of new lime trees in Pishiobury Park, to create an avenue from the southern end of Oak Walk towards the main car park, in time developing a corridor for everyone to enjoy. Why not make a springtime visit? Jane at Sawbridgeworth Library, who began volunteering there last June at Baby Rhyme Time (BRT), shares her experience and the library welcomes more families joining BRT as well as all-age visitors coming into the library. You may also be interested to know that Bishop’s Stortford library is holding an author event (25th March) as a finale to the centenary celebrations at Hertfordshire Libraries.
In updates from charities and local groups, Repair Café Sawbo – part of Sustainable Sawbridgeworth – shares a report about a recent event and the next Repair Cafe is on the 14th March, with bookings opening on the 1st March. Don’t miss it! Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall tells us there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months, whether you’re into “pop, dance or cheesy classics”. They also have a hot desk area if you need a flexible place to work.
Sawbridgeworth WI shares the details about one of its recent speakers, Fiona Rose, who has a special interest in William Morris, his circle and the Arts and Craft movement. Did you know that William Morris had a daughter called May, who designed for him, was an expert embroiderer, and an active member of the Arts and Craft movement in her own right? Fascinating. If you would like to hear more about the WI please contact: sawbridgeworth.evening.wi@gmail.com The Sawbridgeworth Local History Society also updates us on a recent speaker and highlights that the history of Latton Priory, first established in the 12th century, will be covered by John Collier at the next meeting on the 26th March. Plus, if you have photos or information which may help with the publication of a photobook to mark the 10th anniversary of the SLHS, please do get in touch: www.sbwhistory.com New members are welcome at all these groups.
Thank you to Jane for news that her latest fundraising quiz, in support of Teenage Cancer Trust, is ready. The total raised for Teenage Cancer Trust since Jane’s first quiz in 2013 is more than £18,000! An incredible achievement. Find out how you can buy Jane’s 2026 quiz (£2 each) inside your Flyer. Plus, thank you to David for letting us know about a quiz night in support of Sawbridgeworth Town Twinning Association (21st March) at Bullfields Centre. Tickets must be purchased in advance; the details are in your magazine.
We also have your school updates, Sawbridgeworth Town Council and Mayoral reports, the monthly article from Revd Dr Sara Batts-Neale and the regular and Easter service details at Great St Mary’s church. Plus, we’ve received news about Di’s recent retirement as lay minister at Great St Mary’s, with Di having served in this role for over 30 years.
We do hope you enjoy your magazine and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
