The Sawbridgeworth Flyer Magazine April ’24
Welcome Letter from the Editor
Letter from the Editor
It’s lovely to see so many spring flowers out, I especially like the yellow and purple colours. Perhaps we can enjoy more time outside now, maybe with family and friends (and we have an article on walking routes and ideas which may offer some inspiration!)
With a packed issue, including things to do and the latest community news and information, we hope your April Flyer is useful. Events coming up include the Sawbridgeworth May Fayre (5th May, 12 to 4pm) organised by the Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall Trust (SMHT). With music, fairground rides, craft stalls, food stands, donkey rides, car shows and much more – it will be happening all around the town. Plus, the library let us know about their pre loved bookstall as part of the Fayre!
Additionally, the SMHT share their latest event programme (visit www.smht.org.uk to find out more) plus they provide an update on their extension. The Big Breakfast will return (Saturday 18th May, 8.30am – 12 noon, Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall). It’s an opportunity to enjoy your first meal of the day while supporting Christian Aid. Later this same day there will be a Quiz Night organised by Great St Mary’s Church (7pm, Church House). There is so much happening, why not look inside for all the details?
We hear from several sports clubs this time. Central Surgery highlights the benefit of bowls as a low impact sport suitable for all levels of fitness. They mention three clubs in the local area (Sawbridgeworth Bowls Club; Bishop’s Stortford Bowls Club; Havers Park Bowling Club) all of which have Open Days around this time of year, so do check the article for details. We also find out about the four Pickleball courts at Sawbridgeworth Tennis Club. Pickleball is played as doubles on a smaller tennis court and is a cross between tennis/table tennis/badminton; ideal for families and as a social activity. Plus, the season starts soon at Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club; a family club with a thriving junior section and they welcome new members of all ages. So, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and support local sports clubs! They would be very pleased to hear from you.
Thank you to our Town Clerk and Mayor for their reports. Chris Hunt updates us on a number of items including that the Town Council works closely with Sustainable Sawbridgeworth (who can be found on Facebook) and that there will be several events happening throughout the year. Councillor Ruth Buckmaster hopes there will be another picnic in the Rivers Orchard this spring (look out for posters and Facebook giving details) and tells us she has been visiting the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Youth Create this month.
During April there are a number of crime prevention drop in events in Sawbridgeworth being held by the Police. You can pop along to meet your local officers, get crime prevention and safety advice or discuss any concerns you may have. The details and dates are inside your Flyer and also available at this link: www.facebook.com/SawbridgeworthTownCouncil
You’ll find the regular school updates (including Sawbridgeworth student Lola achieving film and TV acclaim) in your magazine and we hope you enjoy catching up on this month’s community news. Thank you for your support of the Flyer.
With best wishes
