Are you interested to know more about the wildflowers that are out now? www.wildaboutgardens.org.uk has a useful wildflower spotter sheet as well as other resources. Selfheal is a cluster of violet flowers (I love their colour) and is just one of the many bright flowers welcoming us all into the summer.
Sawbridgeworth Events and News July
Amongst the community news and local events in this issue there’s a good choice of things to do. On the 27th July the annual Love Parks Day will be held at Pishiobury Park between 12 and 3pm. There will be a whole range of activities for families. If you enjoy the outdoors you may also find www.sawbridgeworth-tc.gov.uk/town-information/other-town-services/walks of interest for a range of town walks and www.hundredparishes.org.uk/walks for rural walking routes.
There’s a new free craft group ‘Needles and Pins’ open to all crafters and a free digital skills group, both at Sawbridgeworth library, plus the Summer Reading Challenge is on from the 8th July to the 2nd September. Just three of the many reasons to pop into your local library! We hear from the Sawbridgeworth Local History Society with an update and their next talk is ‘The Boat that Rocked, the story of Radio Caroline’ (27th July, Memorial Hall). It sounds really interesting. Plus we receive a reminder about preparing your entries ready for the Autumn Show – there are children’s sections and a novice section too (the show is on the 2nd September at the Hall). You may also want to find out more about other activities at the Memorial Hall, including film showings.
Charity News
Charity news includes an update from Jane to say thank you to everyone who supported her 2023 Colours Quiz. It raised nearly £3000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, bringing the total raised since 2013 to £13,228. At Sayesbury Manor Councillor Greg Rattey recently presented cheques for £1076.49 to each of his 2022-2023 chosen Mayoral charities – Mind Herts and Isabel Hospice. They are all fantastic achievements.
Sawbridgeworth Evangelical Congregational Church’s Pop up shop began as a direct response to the third lock down. It continues to allow people whose budgets are stretched to come and ‘shop’ for free. To continue it needs regular donations of food or money and they would be very pleased to receive support. We also hear from The Welbeloved Club, a monthly Sunday lunch club providing a two-course lunch to people aged 65 and over experiencing loneliness. Find out more inside your magazine.
Group News Sawbridgeworth
In local group news Sawbridgeworth WI report on recent meetings as well as invite visitors to come along on the third Tuesday of the month at the Memorial Hall. We also hear from Sawbridgeworth Scouts about their varied activities; volunteer leaders are always welcome. Also, the Mayor of Sawbridgeworth, Councillor Ruth Buckmaster, shares her first monthly column, which includes a 50th anniversary Town Twinning visit and community updates.
Along with our regular school and education news you may be intrigued to find out about a special Coronation Kneeler which is now in Gt. St. Mary’s Church. Do find out more about all these stories and I hope you enjoy this packed summer issue!
