The rollout of the new bin collection system across East Suffolk has not gone well, and I know this has caused a huge amount of frustration for residents in Martlesham.

When the new bins started being rolled out in June, my office was quickly inundated with people getting in touch about missed food waste collections, bins that had not arrived and difficulties getting a response from the Council when things went wrong.

At one point, I had more than 400 residents across the constituency get in touch with me about problems with the rollout. I know that behind every message was someone who simply wanted their bins collected or wanted to know when their new bin was going to arrive.

I raised these concerns directly with East Suffolk Council and pushed for action, including asking for an emergency meeting when some households were going weeks without collections. I also made sure that the individual cases residents were bringing to me were being passed on to the Council.

In some areas, things seem to have improved and I know that many of the problems we were seeing in the summer have now been resolved. But there are still some residents experiencing issues, and I don’t want anyone to feel that they should just put up with it.
