The  January edition of the Martlesham Flyer is here, and it’s packed with news and events from around the parish.

Martlesham Council

Happy New Year to all our residents!

The New Year is a time for reflection and for Martlesham Council 2023 was a fruitful one. Below is a list of some of the Council achievements in 2023:

  • In March the Council helped local organisations by awarding grants to the Disability Advice Service (East Suffolk), Greenways Countryside Project, Martlesham Bowls Club, Martlesham Conservation Group, Martlesham in Bloom, Martlesham Heath Aviation Society and gave a donation of £1,000.00 to the Suffolk Wildlife Trust for the creation of a new nature reserve in Martlesham called Martlesham Wilds, an exceptional project for the parish of Martlesham.
  • A Royal Oak was planted to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.
  • Trees were surveyed, maintained, protected and cared for.
  • Conservation work was carried out on Martlesham Common Local Nature Reserve and the Recreation Ground.
  • The Council responded to over 100 planning applications and 2 planning appeals.
  • A new water source was installed at the Recreation Ground to help with site maintenance, tree care and planned future improvements.
  • Phase 3A of the Community Orchard (the planting of 10 fruit trees) was completed.
  • Solar panels were installed on the council office and Richards Room to reduce the Council’s carbon footprint.
  • Councillors represented residents at forums and external organisations including the Brightwell Lakes Forum and McCarthy Stone Forum.
  • The Council has helped choose road names and influence new developments – Hastoe and Brightwell Lakes.

2024 promises to be an exciting year for Martlesham Council with:

  • The planting of 2 native black poplar saplings
  • The Village Fete on Saturday 20th July
  • A series of talks by Martlesham Climate Action
  • The establishment of Martlesham Community Speed Watch – look out for the fluorescent jackets!
  • New play equipment on the Hastoe development
  • Exciting plans for the Recreation Ground and beyond
  • Continued updates to the Council’s IT systems for greater efficiency
  • The Council’s second volunteer thank you event
  • We are looking forward to welcoming our new Finance Officer, Mrs Kreon Wynn and
  • We hope to welcome new councillors in 2024 too!
