Martlesham Council December Update
Martlesham Council
Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area. The levy only applies in areas where a local authority has consulted on and approved a charging schedule which sets out its levy rates and has published the schedule on its website.
Most new development which creates net additional floor space of 100 square metres or more, or creates a new dwelling, is potentially liable for the levy.
Communities that draw up Neighbourhood Plans receive 25% of planning levy charged on new developments in their Neighbourhood Plan area.
In October, Martlesham Council received a CIL payment of £30,563.85 from the McCarthy Stone development. This will enable the Council to complete some exciting projects for our Parish including improvements to the Recreation Ground and accessible travel routes. Previous payments from other recent development have allowed us to support the provision of new play equipment at the Pavilion and install solar panels at the Community Hall. Thanks to all residents who took part in the creation of the Martlesham Neighbourhood Plan.
Your experiences of crossing Main Road
Martlesham Council is keen to hear your experiences of crossing Main Road whether its part of your journey to and from school, en route to the retail/industrial park, how you access bus services, get to your neighbours or is part of your dog walking circuit. The information gathered will help Martlesham Council in its support of a pedestrian crossing, a project campaigned for by local resident Simon Daws who, along with his guide dog, was hit by a car whilst attempting to cross Main Road in 2020. If you are happy to share your experiences, please write to us with the details via our enquiries email. Thank you.
Flooding
If you have been affected by flooding caused by recent storms, please remember to report this to Suffolk County Council (SCC). SCC is designated as the Lead Local Flood Authority and is asking all affected residents to report significant flooding to individual properties by using the Highways Reporting Tool, or if they do not have access to the internet to call the SCC customer service number: 0345 606 6171.
A Community Speed Watch for Martlesham
Thank you to the volunteers who came forward enabling a Community Speed Watch for Martlesham to become a reality. In a few months’ time, after the necessary training has been undertaken, the scheme will be able to focus on the speeding hot spots in the parish with the aim of influencing those drivers who continue to drive in excess of the speed limit.
