A new parish councillor for Martlesham
At last month’s meeting, Martlesham Council was delighted to welcome new councillor, Chrissie Geeson. Chrissie is deeply passionate about our Martlesham community as the area has always been her home. She brings with her broad experience having worked for many years within Suffolk County Council. She currently serves as the safeguarding member of the board for Anglia Care Trust and is looking forward to being a voice for those who struggle to be heard, an advocate for change and to serving her community.

Tree of the Month August 2024 – James Grieve Apple – Malus domestica
This month’s young tree is a variety of apple known as ‘James Grieve’ of Scottish origins. It is situated on the land adjacent to the Community Hall and Council offices and was planted by the daughters of the late John Forbes, a much-respected Parish Councillor and tree warden, in 2022. The well flavoured large fruit can be picked in July for both eating and cooking. Council staff and tree wardens were delighted to note that for the for the very first time this summer the tree bore two apples. However, before they were able to take a photo, the apples had gone. We hope that whoever picked them really enjoyed them and we look forward to seeing more fruit next year.
