Tree of the Month

Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) is distinctive because of its needles in pairs which are often quite blue. The orange coloured bark is also a feature.

And this magnificent pine is located on the Western Corridor, Martlesham Heath, towards the Foxhall Road on the path which runs parallel to Dobbs Lane. Also, it’s girth measurers 2.1m making this tree approximately 100 years old.

Tree planting for the King’s Coronation

Martlesham Council aims to plant 10 oaks within the parish to mark the King’s Coronation. So, the first of the oaks has already been planted on the Recreation Ground in the vicinity of the Treebilee Oak planted last year to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

And if you know of a suitable site within the parish where one of the remaining 9 oaks could go. And you or your local club/group would be able to help water it during its first few years of life, then please let us know using the email below.

A plaque for the new Coronation oak will be installed closer to the day of the Coronation, Saturday 6th May.

Also are you having a street party to mark the Coronation? Drop us a line, we would love to know what you were planning!
