The Lee Valley Flyer Magazine November ’26

Welcome to Lee Valley Flyer Magazine October ’26 | Free Magazine. In your Lee Valley Flyer magazine October ’26 edition.

Letter from the Editor

The end of the year seems to be coming so quickly now. I hope your November Flyer will offer useful information and ideas of things to do as we move into a time of remembrance and then the festive season.

After remembrance services across our towns and villages, there are many other events coming up. Hoddesdon library has an author event, Saturday Stories, Lego Club and a family finger painting event this month and Harlow library celebrates 100 years of Essex Libraries! There will be an exhibition featuring photographs from the library through the years and their usual regular library events will also take place.

Lee Valley Park updates us on a free Birds of River Lee Country Park guided lunchtime walk (26th November) as well as festive wreath making, carol singing and afternoon tea events at Myddelton House Gardens (selected dates). St Laurence Church in Wormley shares details about Remembrance Sunday and its Christmas Tree Festival (28th November). The United Reformed Church in Broxbourne has a Christmas Craft Market (28th November).

Other festive events include Hoddesdon Loves Christmas (29th November), organised by Love Hoddesdon BID working with Broxbourne Council. It includes a Father Christmas Parade, Christmas lights switch-on and fireworks display. This is followed by the Waltham Cross Christmas Festival (5th December) with live DJ and entertainment, stalls, a snow globe and a visit from Santa and his Elf.

Other Christmas events nearby include the Hertford Christmas Gala (27th November) and chalets in the grounds of Hertford Castle (27th to the 29th November) plus Ware Dickensian evening (4th December) with stalls, live entertainment and carols. There are also Christmas Tree Festivals at All Saints Church in Hertford (21st to 29th November) and Leaside Church in Ware (4th and 5th December).

Isabel Hospice tells us about its Lights of Love service in Chestnut (6th December) to remember the lives of those who are no longer with us and celebrate the wonderful times we shared with them. The charity has also launched The Giftmas Challenge, inviting us to choose preloved and make Christmas more sustainable. CHEXS, who works with children, young people, and families to build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills, has a charity fundraising wreath making event (12th November) and a Quiz Night (26th November). Plus, Citizens Advice Broxbourne has a focus on scams. There are also news updates from Broxbourne u3a and Lea Valley u3a.

We have a report from Community Alliance Broxbourne and East Herts about their recent autumn conference, which I was pleased to be able to attend. Plus, Bhavna, the Broxbourne Borough based founder of Stargardt’s Connected, tells us that Stargardt disease is a rare genetic eye condition that causes progressive loss of central vision, typically diagnosed in childhood. The charity is holding its third international conference (21st November), bringing families and professionals together. In addition, we hear from the Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Patsy Spears, who tells us her two chosen causes for this Mayoral year are Stargardt’s Connected and The James Foundation. The Mayor has been supporting and attending a wide range of events so far and extends sincere thanks to residents and local groups for their continued support.

We hope you enjoy your magazine. Thank you for sending in community contributions, your support is appreciated and we look forward to continuing to receive and share these.

With best wishes
