The Ipswich Flyer December Update

Launched in 2023 by Ipswich Borough Council, the Ipswich Weekender programme aims to increase events in Ipswich town centre and provide an exciting variety of free activities for visitors over selected weekends. This year, the Weekenders project has seen the town centre brought to life by events in March and July, as well as activities on Ipswich Waterfront in September to tie-in with the University of Suffolk’s Freshers Week.

Visitors to Ipswich can look forward to the Christmas Ipswich Weekender, which is due to be held from Thursday 7th – Sunday 10th December and is sure to bring festive fun to Ipswich.

Christmas Creatives Market

If you’re looking for the perfect Christmas gift, visit the Christmas Creatives Market on the Cornhill to find lovely handmade gifts on the 7th December, there will be mulled wine and scrummy food to enjoy too. Or take a stroll down St. Peter’s Street to enjoy Christmassy stalls and carolling on 9th December. You can also visit the splendid Ancient House from Thursday-Sunday, which will be filled with exciting local, independent makers, artists and traders.

Suffolk Libraries will be holding a Christmas Party on 9th December with gifts, music, refreshments and a grotto. Get creative at Pennikkity Pots Ceramics Café where they will have both family and adult-only painting sessions on the 7th December. Rock Paper Scissors will also be running a Festive Family Art Studio on 10th December where families can get artistic with a variety of creative activities. You can even join TeaMix and make your own Bubbletea concoction on Saturday and Sunday!

Christmas Carols Ipswich December

The Busketeers Choir will perform Christmas Carols from 6pm-7pm on 7th December to accompany your late-night shopping, while Pop Chorus will spread some seasonal cheer on 10th December, performing upbeat, joyful songs.

For those seeking culture and history, the Christchurch Mansion guides will be running tours of the historic Tudor building in full period costume on 9th December. The Ipswich School of Dancing will perform A Penguin’s Dream on the Cornhill, featuring beloved holiday characters, festive music, and stunning costumes.

There will be plenty of magical storytelling experiences to enjoy with Christmas stories by candlelight at various venues from 7th to 10th December. Or step into the enchanting world of Charles Dickens at The Black Horse Inn on 10th December and experience a timeless Dickensian Christmas, where the past comes to life in a day and night of festive wonder.
