The Hertford and Ware September Flyer Welcome
As we edge into the autumn season and a new term for those in education, I hope we’ll get some pleasant late summer / early autumn days to enjoy and that the community information and events in this issue usefully take you through this new month and beyond.
Hertford and Ware September
Out of interest I took a look at awareness days for this time of year; did you know that the 22nd September is World Car Free Day? On that note we have a very interesting article from Sustainable Hertford Heath about Active Travel; which is all about getting moving from A to B in ways that don’t use fossil fuels such as walking and cycling. You may also be interested in local free Herts Health Walks. As well as joining walks, there are opportunities to become a Health Walk Volunteer.
We have an inspiring story from Rhiannon about her regular local walks with her Nan Denni. Rhiannon says: “My Nan coaxed me out with the promise of a cafe half way into the walk. I’ve always suffered with social anxiety and after lockdown I was finding things a bit difficult… I’ve realised walking unwinds me and I feel better mentally, my confidence has increased massively.”
Events Hertford and Ware September
Local events and things to do include the Hertford Castle Heritage Day (20th September); the Local Produce and Craft Market at Tudor Square (17th September); the monthly afternoon cinema series at Ware Priory (September’s film is ‘Mrs Harris Goes to Paris’); free Local Social coffee mornings in Ware and library and museum exhibitions and events in both towns.
Yarnbombers Hertford
Did you manage to see this summer’s yarnbomb in Hertford? The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters were busy again! We share an update about their recent ‘under the sea special’ which, as well as delighting young and older, has been raising funds for the local Air Ambulance. Dan’s column also includes photos of their work. Find out more inside.
There are many clubs and societies in this month’s issue, including news from Ware Swimming Club about a multitude of Personal Bests and competitive achievements; fantastic news. We have updates from Ware FC at the start of the new season and the RSPB SE Herts Group on their early autumn events, new members welcome. We hear from the Scottish Country Dancing Club who invite you to come and try Scottish Country Dancing in Hertford (19th September) You don’t need a partner and there are no age restriction. Plus the Ware and District Photographic Society’s new season is now starting and there’s an annual exhibition in November. There are more clubs inside this issue too; a great choice!
Charity News
In charity news there’s a new drop in café for 11 to 18 years old in Hertford from FUTUREhope (volunteers are welcome) and a plea from Isabel Hospice for more shop volunteers; even just a few hours a week would make a real difference to help raise funds for their vital work. We also find out that the recent Haileybury Madrigal Singers performance on the island at Amwell Pool has raised hundreds for Isabel Hospice. In addition to this, we have a wide range of primary and secondary school news in your Flyer too.
Thank you very much to everyone who sends in community editorial and we hope you enjoy your September issue.
With best wishes
