Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine September ’25 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
As we move gently into the autumn season, there’s plenty of information, things to do and inspiration in your September Flyer, for this month and beyond.
The new Community Hub in Stanstead Abbotts is holding a wellbeing evening (12th September) followed by an Open Day (5th October). All Saints church in Hertford is hosting an annual Environment Day (13th September) with speakers, information and stalls. As part of the Heritage Open Days Hertford Council is holding its annual Heritage Day (21st September). Explore Hertford Castle and experience its lawn transformed with a small settlement of interactive medieval encampments. Hertford Town Council is also holding free guided walks during September. Ware Museum is inviting us to pick up a free architectural discovery trail around the museum and take a self-guided walk around Ware.
There is an annual Police Community Fun Day in partnership with Ware Town Council (21st September) at Ware Priory, free entry, with activities and information. Then an ‘Older Persons Activity Learning and Safety’ event (24th September) at Wodson Park in Ware. This free event provides information on a range of services. All guests will be seated and served a free hot meal. Find out how to attend inside.
The 150-year-old Little Theatre is working on a project and would welcome support. It’s holding an Open Day on the 27th September. Hertford Heath’s community orchard (28th September) has fruit juice and cider making, music, games and activities for children. It was a lovely event when I went last year.
In charity and local group news there’s a community bike drop at Hertford Rugby Club (14th September). Please donate any old bikes so the team at Herts Disability Sports Foundation can refurbish and give the bikes a second life. Tim Hoskin, Hertford Heath resident and East Herts Councillor, cycled 1,200 miles in June from Lands End to John O’Groat’s using the Sustrans route – raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Over £1,800 so far! Plus, the Mayor of Ware, Councillor Graeme Hill, is raising funds for Isabel Hospice by undertaking a virtual cycle challenge – pedalling the equivalent distance to Ware’s twin towns. Information on supporting these incredibly inspiring challenges is in your Flyer. Also, did you see the amazing rivers themed display in Hertford by the Yarnbombers? They’re raising funds for the Hertford Pantry.
The Ware and District Photographic Society holds its annual exhibition at Thundridge Village Hall (11th October) plus its new season starts in September. Visitors/new members are always welcome. The Rotary Club of Hertford tells us about a £1,000 charitable contribution to the ‘Blood Runners’ (we share who they are inside!) There are quiz evenings at Ware Library (17th September) and Ware Museum (26th September) plus free taster evenings from the South-East Herts Scottish Dancers (16th September) and the Waggoners Square Dance Club (6th October). All these groups would be pleased to hear from you.
Thank you to Hertford Town Council and Dan from I Love Hertford for their news. I’ve also written a feature about Hertfordshire Health Walks. Hear first-hand from walkers and a volunteer leader about the benefits they get from being involved in these free local walks. It’s very uplifting. You may understand why I chose to volunteer as a leader 10 years ago! There’s school and education news too. Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy reading your Flyer.
With best wishes
