Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine October ’25 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
Welcome to your October issue, packed with community information and activities. I hope we can all make the most of this time of year, with autumn colours on display. You can always get inspiration from The Hundred Parishes Society website for walking routes or discover a free Hertfordshire Health Walk. Plus, don’t forget that our clocks go back on Sunday 26th October; seems the year is flying by.
Things to do this month include half term family activities at Hertford Museum (28th – 30th October); Ware’s the Film Festival (26th October – 2nd November: www.waretowncouncil.gov.uk/whats-on/wares-the-film-festival); events at your local libraries; guided tours of Hertford Castle at its Open Day (26th October); free Creative Writing Sessions at BEAM Kitchen Bar (next one is 29th October); St Mary’s Church Ware Hallowe’en opening with a cosy vibe; the annual Ware Fireworks evening organised by Isabel Hospice (1st November) and The Friends of St Mary’s Quiz Night (8th November). There’s a new exhibition and Room of Remembrance at Lowewood Museum and collections to view at Ware Museum, who are also seeking new Trustees.
Plus, there are several music events. Hertford Choral Society’s autumn concert (25th October) at All Saints’ Church, Hertford. Both St Mary’s Church in Ware and All Saints’ Church in Hertford have free lunchtime concerts (check dates and details inside). Also, Ware Choral has an open rehearsal at the Riverside Hall (25th October), all welcome. This is ahead of its 6th December concert.
In other local group and club news we hear from Hertford Art Society about its Members Show (31st October – 2nd November). There’s a mix of art to see and new members are always welcome to join the society. Hertford Rugby Club warmly invites graduates who have returned home, former players and fresh faces alike, to come to the club, which is now fielding four senior men’s teams. Ware FC updates us on some results and tells us about its new website www.warefc.co.uk for advance tickets and club shop purchases, club news, player photos and match reports. We have a reminder, if you read this in time, from The Ware and District Photographic Society about its annual exhibition at Thundridge Village Hall (11th October), visitors/new members are always welcome at the Society.
Thank you to Edda at the Lea Valley Discussion Group for her article. The Group discusses matters in the news, but every alternative meeting is set aside for single topic discussions. Intrigued? Then why not join them for a taster evening, full details are on their website: www.leavalleydiscussiongroup.wordpress.com It sounds very interesting.
We also share a tribute to Phillip ‘Phil’ Bruce who was involved in a collision whilst riding his moped in London Road, Ware. Phil’s family have described him as being a huge part of the local community. Phil was part of Always Bee You, a charity that enables adults with learning disabilities to socialise, make friends, gain work opportunities and learn life skills. Jo, the CEO of the charity, said: “Phil was an inspiration and a joy to be with.”
Thank you to Hertford Town Council and Dan from I Love Hertford for their news. Watch out for more on the I Love Hertford community awards and the Hertford festive season in our next issue! Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy your Flyer.
With best wishes
