Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine November ’25 Welcome

Letter from the Editor

As I write your November welcome letter it hardly seems possible that we are this far through the year. In this issue you’ll find a range of local community updates and information about festive/ winter events; there’s so much on our doorstep!

Events include the All Saints’ Church Christmas Tree Festival (22nd to 30th November, with an Advent Carol Service on the 30th at 6.30pm) and the Christmas Gala / Lights Switch On in the centre of Hertford (28th November) along with Hertford’s Christmas Market on the castle lawn (28th to 30th November). Look out for Dan from I Love Hertford at the market plus the Rotary Club of Hertford’s mulled wine stall on Gala Night.

Ware Dickensian Evening (5th December) is packed with things to see and do with something for everyone in the centre of Ware and Hertford Heath has a Winter Wonderland Weekend (29th – 30th November). Also, the Rotary Club of Ware is hosting a Charity Christmas Market at Ware Priory Fletchers Lea (22nd November) with all profits to local charities.

There’s an invitation to attend the Thanksgiving Service at the United Reform Church (23rd November), thanking everyone for their part in helping the Hertford, Ware and District Foodbank run for the last 12 years. Plus, a new exhibition exploring the history of Ware’s Southern Maltings is on at Ware Museum and a drop-in Christmas crafts event (28th November, after school) is at Hertford Museum. Winter Reads (reading challenges and events for all ages) is at your local Herts library from the 1st November until the 31st January. Courtyard Arts has a group exhibition showcasing printmakers (up to 22nd November) along with a Festive Bauble competition – there is so much variety.

On a musical note, free lunchtime concerts take place at both St Mary’s Church in Ware and All Saints’ Church in Hertford (dates are inside) as well as other events and services. We also hear about the Ware Choral Society concert (6th December) at the Drill Hall, complete with festive mince pies.

In local club news Angela Rippon joined the Waggoners Square Dance Club at the “Live, Longer, Better Celebration Day” held at Hertfordshire University. After watching, Angela did not hesitate to dance herself! The Ware and District Photographic Society update us on events and invite anyone interested in photography to get in touch. Visitors/new members are always welcome.

The Rotary Club of Ware, with help from The Rotary Club of Hertford Shires, tells us they were able to recycle 30 bikes and cycle spares and accessories to Africa. The bikes and additional parts were kindly donated by Denise Hannibal whose late father Dennis Kurns owned a bike repair shop. Ware Rotary are still accepting bike and tool donations.

Other charity and community news includes the Mayor of Hertford presenting a cheque to Hearts for Herts, the chosen charity beneficiary for Rock at the Castle 2025, which will go towards the installation of a solar and wind powered defibrillator at Hartham Common. Plus, Ware Christmas Together welcomes anyone who might be without company on Christmas day, as a guest or a volunteer guest. Email christmastogetherware@gmail.com or call 01992 531833 to get involved or book your place. Find out more about all these events and news items inside your magazine.

Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy your Flyer.

With best wishes
