Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine November ’24 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
Welcome to the November issue of your Flyer magazine. I hope you’ll find the wide range of community news articles and things to do useful, as we move closer towards the end of the year and what can often be a very busy time!
Coming up is Hertford Town Council’s Christmas Gala (22nd November) with the ‘lights switch on’, as well as the annual Hertford Castle Christmas Market that weekend (22nd – 24th November). The Winter Fayre in Hertford Heath (30th November) includes stalls, Santa’s grotto and ice skating plus a sustainable clothes sale from Sustainable Hertford Heath. Ware Dickensian Evening (7th December) is also packed with festive things to see and do and includes the Leaside Christmas Tree Festival (7-8th December). Why not find out more inside your magazine?
Other events and activities include the Ware and District Photographic Society Annual Exhibition (16th November) with prints on display and two hand embroidery exhibitions. There’s a slipper swap event at Ware Library (2nd December) for residents who are older or have mobility issues. Have you visited Ware library since it re-opened in its new venue on the High Street? There are many regular events at both Ware and Hertford libraries. Sustainable Hertford Heath’s community events include the Repair Shop (17th November) and litter picking (23rd November) and I recently enjoyed helping to make apple juice at their Orchard Open Day; thank you to all involved! Ware Lido’s festive swims are back (with heated water) plus they have a cold water swimming season.
In Stanstead Abbotts you can find out about a Community Hub Drop-in; Local History Society meeting and Concert Society events (dates are inside). You can also find out about Girlguiding in Ware (it’s the 100 year anniversary) by visiting the exhibition at Ware Museum.
News from Isabel Hospice includes the launch of its new online shop, with every purchase made contributing directly to funding the palliative care services provided by this charity to the eastern Hertfordshire community. Also Ware Inner Wheel Club tells us they recently gave a cheque for £1,150 to Isabel Hospice from monies raised during Past President Rosie’s year 2023/24. Hertford Rotary Club donated this same amount to the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Service. Rotary will be welcoming people to their mulled wine stall at the Hertford Christmas Gala (22nd November) and it was pleased to recently celebrate David’s active membership of Hertford Rotary for 50 years.
We also have updates from Ware Swimming Club about its Club Championships, with many Personal Bests and several swimmers winning more than 10 medals plus Ware FC tell us about recent developments, including the youth team season where there is generally at least one game at Wodson Park every Sunday, entry is free. Thank you to Dan for his I Love Hertford report (look out for him at the Christmas Market at Hertford Castle!) Plus, there are many other news items inside this issue and all the charities, clubs and groups that are included would be very pleased to hear from you.
You can also find out about the Pet Blessing Service at St Leonard’s Church, Bengeo, as well as catch up with your usual round-up of school news. We hope you enjoy your November magazine and thank you for all your support and contributions.
With best wishes
