The Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine March ’24

Inside the Hertford and Ware Flyer magazine March ’24 edition. There’s a great choice of things to do in this issue, alongside your community news.

Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine March ’24 Welcome

Letter from the Editor

As I write this month’s letter there is the welcome prospect of the clocks going forward on the 31st March (which also coincides with Easter Sunday) So, I hope you can enjoy the longer daylight hours and also some chocolate, if you like it!

 Hertford and Ware Local News

In our March issue you’ll find plenty of community information, ideas of things to do and local news. So much so that it has been particularly difficult to select the highlights for my letter this time; there’s so much inside to read!

Looking for ideas of things to do? There’s an Easter Egg hunt and Easter Egg decorating competition at Ware Priory (30th March); an Easter Egg hunt and Preloved Clothing Sale in Hertford Heath (31st March) as well as special Easter services at Holy Trinity Church; a ‘Superhero’ children’s trail in Hertford town centre (throughout the Easter school holidays); Stanstead Abbotts Concert Society events (the next two are 17th March and 21st April); Stanstead Abbotts Local History events (including the 12th April) and a Hertford Heath fairy trail interactive guided walk in March.

Additionally, there are a variety of events (for children and adults) happening at Hertford Museum; special exhibitions in both Ware and Hertford Museums and events in both town libraries, including an evening quiz in Ware library (20th March).  Hertford library also highlights the Home Library Service. Plus, there are free volunteer led Herts Health Walks taking place every week: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/healthwalks

 Local Groups

We have received an update from The Rotary Club of Hertford Shires that Uncle Funk’s Disco Inferno will be returning to the Ware Drill Hall (27th April). The Rotary Club’s headline charity, that proceeds from the night will be supporting, is Isabel Hospice, along with other charities supported by Rotary. So, why not find out about all these activities – and more – in your Flyer?

Updates from local groups and clubs include Ware Swimming Club, who highlight their club member achievements at the recent Swim England Hertfordshire County Championships (the most successful in the club’s history) and Ware Joggers, who let us know they dominated in the Long Cross Country League securing their fifth consecutive overall title; fantastic results from both clubs. Plus, Bury Rangers FC (based in Hertford and Ware) provide an overview of their community football club, which includes 300 players in the girls and women’s section. All these groups would be pleased to hear from you if you’d like to find out more about joining them or supporting them.

 News and Updates

Have you heard of the Lovely Grub Garden? A piece of previously disused land has been turned into a space where people meet and learn to grow food and friendships together.  It sounds like a Hertford secret to be discovered! Thank you to Dan for his monthly I Love Hertford column, packed with insights into the year ahead. Part of his news is about a new town centre event in April, there’s more in your Flyer on this.

As usual we have a wide variety of primary and secondary school news for you to catch up on, as well as a lovely story about 104 year old Bobbie receiving a visit from The Mayor of Ware on her very special birthday! Thank you for your support of the Flyer and do enjoy this springtime issue.

With best wishes
