Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine June ’26 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
As we move into early summer, with maximum daylight hours in front of us, you’ll find plenty of events and activities here to help you make the most of June and beyond!
Cars at the Castle and the Hertford Family Pride Day take place this month and then the Hertford Castle Beer and World Food Festival and Teddy Bears’ Picnic are in July. The Ware Festival starts at the beginning of July with the Carnival Parade, Town Fair and Boat Parade followed by the Ware Festival of Running and the Ware Brass Summer Picnic Concert. Further Ware Festival events take place over several weeks. The dates and information about these Town Council events are in your magazine.
We have an update about the Hertford Heath Summer Fayre (18th July), with activities for all ages and an evening ‘Big Screen on the Green’, sponsored by The Goat. We also discover that Generation Circus has brought its Circus Life Drawing back to Ware Drill Hall (14th June, 5–8pm). Artists of all levels are invited to sketch live circus performers.
Free lunchtime concerts are happening at All Saints’ Church Hertford and St Mary’s Church Ware and St Mary’s Church also hosts an “Organ Extravaganza” in July. The 84th Madrigal Concert takes place at Great Amwell Pool (19th June, 9pm) organised by Haileybury, with donations to Isabel Hospice. I’ve been before and it was a very special event.
Ware, Hertford and Lowewood museums share news about their exhibitions and the monthly summertime Ware Town Tours from Ware Museum. Plus, Hertford and Ware libraries update us on events, including how TV and theatre influence novel writing and how adaptations transform stories for performance (Hertford, 25th June, 7.00pm – 9.00pm) and the opportunity to visit CareFest (Ware, 15th June, 10am-12 noon), with free daily-living aids, mental health support, movement and posture tips and free breakfast treats.
The Ware 5k parkrun, which takes place at Westmill Farm every Saturday at 9am, will celebrate its 400th event on the 27th June! Other local parkruns include Panshanger Park and Hertford Junior parkrun, a 2km event for young people aged 4-14. Find out more inside; they’re also always grateful to hear from volunteers.
In local charity and group news we have a report from Cllr Hill, the 2025-26 Mayor of Ware. Around £10,000 has been raised for Isabel Hospice during his mayoral year. Cllr Hill and Ware Town Council extend thanks to everyone who contributed to this impressive fundraising effort. We also find out that the Rotary Club of Hertford is raising funds for Isabel Hospice. They have a Jazz Evening (14th June) to support them; everyone is welcome. Additionally, Ware Men’s Shed recently opened its new shed and they’ve highlighted the charitable donations they have received. The Group offers a meeting place to connect, converse and create things of value to the local community.
Congratulations to Dan from I Love Hertford for his achievement in successfully completing the London Marathon and raising £2600 for Phoenix Charity! Dan says: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported my London Marathon fundraising… The support, encouragement and kind messages genuinely meant a lot….I’m already dreaming up a charity challenge for next year.” Good luck Dan.
Enjoy your Flyer, which includes regular school news, and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
