Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine July ’25 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
As I write your July welcome letter I can’t quite believe we’re heading to the longest school holidays, let’s hope the weather is good and we can make the most of summer! There are plenty of things to do and lots of information inside your Flyer.
Events this time include the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge. There are also other activities at both town libraries, including a free Cybercrime Awareness workshop (14th July) and an author event (15th July) in Ware plus both town museums have children’s school holiday events and exhibitions. There are lunchtime concerts at St Mary’s Church and a Strawberry Tea at Leaside, both in Ware, and a Butterfly Talk at All Saints Church in Hertford. Sounds very interesting!
Other events include The Ware Festival (activities run over a month), a Summer Trail in Hertford, Hertford Heath’s Summer Fayre (13th July), the annual Teddy Bears Picnic organised by Hertford Town Council (20th July), Ware’s Annual Food Festival (20th July), Rock at the Castle (3rd August), Summer Concerts at the Priory from Ware Town Council, Hertford Town Council’s “Crime and Punishment” guided walk (25th August) and history of Ware tours, organised by Ware Museum, on the first Sunday of the month until September.
We hear about a campaign from Age UK for all public services to always offer a post, phone or face to face option. Details are inside about how you can support this. Other charity and local community group news includes the Foodbank, who would be grateful for donations and support; an article from the Waggoners Square Dance Club about their red, white and blue evening after VE Day; a feature from the Great Amwell Women’s Club who have raised funds to support Legend on the Bench (where people can sit when they are in need of help) and news from Ware Swimming Club about an Exchange visit to Wulfrath and fundraising efforts to reopen Fanshawe Pool.
Helping Herts Week is in July, where communities come together to raise money for local children and young people plus William and the ‘Tree Fellas’ from Hertford Heath tell us that the Phoenix Tree on the green has been replanted – it looks really lovely.
Stephen from the Rotary Club of Hertford tells us what the club does in the local community and further afield. They meet on a Monday lunchtime but are also setting up a Monday ‘Breakfast Club’. They would be pleased to welcome you to either or both meetings. The Rotary Club of Hertford Shires shares news about a recent Uncle Funk fundraising event, the third such event. and these three evenings have raised £16,000 for charities and worthy causes. Plans are underway to hold another music event on Saturday 12th September 2026!
The new Mayor of Hertford, Councillor Steven Watson and the new Mayor of Ware, Councillor Graeme Hill, are both featured this time. You’ll also find your regular school news. Thank you to Hertford Town Council for a report which includes information on the Refill Scheme for Hertford and Ware (where you can fill up your water bottle for free) and to Dan from I Love Hertford, with event news for us all! We hope you enjoy reading your Flyer and thank you for your support.
With best wishes
