The Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine January 2024
Inside the Hertford and Ware Flyer magazine January edition. There’s a great choice of things to do in this issue, alongside your community news.
Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine January Welcome
Welcome to your New Year Flyer. The community news inside will provide useful ideas and inspiration to take us through January and beyond. Maybe you’ll be able to spend time outside this month, suitably wrapped up, to blow some cobwebs away! (there are free Hertfordshire Health Walks to join, plus many self-guided walking routes here: www.hundredparishes.org.uk/walks)
Keeping to an outside theme, Isabel Hospice (IH) tells us about ‘Step Up For Isabel’, a walking challenge (or cycling, jogging or wheeling) to keep active and support local hospice care. Can you commit to walking 100 miles in one month? This is about 8000 steps a day, which is how many steps an IH nurse walks per shift. We also hear from the RSPB SE Herts Group about some outdoor events in January; new members are always welcome.
Hertford and Ware Local Clubs and Groups
We have news from a number of local clubs and groups. Would you like to find out more about a local badminton club? This friendly group meets in Hertford Heath on a Tuesday evening; all abilities welcome. Or what about trying a Scottish dancing evening in Hertford? Organised by the SE Herts Scottish Country Dance Society.
The Inner Wheel is 100 in January 2024 and we have updates from both the Hertford and the Ware Clubs, packed with information about their recent activities, achievements, links with charity and some of the ways they have been recognising this special anniversary. The Rotary Club of Hertford also shares its recent news with us.
Events and Things to Do
Looking at events and things to do, there’s a free ‘move, meditate and relax’ session in Place House Hall, Ware (18th January) for adults, funded by a grant from Ware Town Council to the Community Initiative Charity. Soundbites free Wednesday lunchtime concerts resume at All Saints in Hertford (from 17th January) and there’s an event from the Stanstead Abbotts Concert Society (21st January). If you’re interested in going to the movies, the monthly films being shown at Ware Priory have now been confirmed until May – don’t miss out!
The libraries in Herts are currently running a Winter Reads challenge, for all ages, until mid February. Why not pop in, collect your challenge card and maybe find out what else is going on inside (there are always regular events) as well as have a browse at their books and other items, in the warm!
Charity News Bishops Stortford
In charity news, ‘Always Bee You’, who provide a safe and friendly environment for adults with learning disabilities to make friends and learn valuable skills, were delighted to receive an award from the Community Alliance for their inspiring volunteer led work. I was present at the time and it was wonderful to see ‘Always Bee You’, and other charities, recognised for all they do to offer support in the community.
I Love Hertford
Still on the subject of awards, Dan’s I Love Hertford column this month updates us on the recent I Love Hertford Community Awards that celebrate the characters of Hertford who really make a difference – do read your magazine to find out more and to hear some 2024 news from Dan!
Hertford and Ware School news
We also have a wide range of primary and secondary school updates for you to catch up on this time. Enjoy reading your magazine and thank you very much for your support and the community news that we receive; it’s always welcome.
With best wishes
