Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine December ’24 Welcome
Letter from the Editor
It’s incredible to be writing the December 2024 issue letter already! I hope the end of this year goes as well as possible. Your Flyer is packed with events and community updates, to take us through December and beyond.
Things to do include Isabel Hospice Christmas events in support of the charity – such as Christmas Jumper day; Christmas carols at The Haileybury Chapel and a Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling, 6th – 12th January 2025. Ware Library shares news on its events including a quarterly quiz (18th December) with some festive rounds! It’s £3 and booking is essential, pop in or send a message: www.facebook.com/WareLibrary
Ware Museum reminds us about their ‘100 years of Girlguiding in Ware’ exhibition and their shop with Christmas gifts and stocking ideas. Visit www.waremuseum.org.uk for opening times. There’s plenty to do in Hertford Museum and Hertford Library plus the Secret Society of Hertford Crafters has produced an amazing yarnbomb, staging the woolly version of Cinderella (they’ve decorated Hertford’s town centre Christmas tree), as a nod to the new theatre’s production this Christmas. As well as Cinderella, why not check out https://beamhertford.co.uk to see all that they have going on over Christmas?
Holy Trinity Church in Hertford Heath updates us on Christmas services and events, including a Family Christmas Celebration at the Farm! We also hear from Ware Christmas Together. They warmly invite anyone who might be without company on Christmas Day, as a guest or a volunteer, to join them for lunch (contact details are in your magazine). Additionally, to get us set for 2025 there’s a Health and Wellbeing Festival at Southern Maltings in Ware (11th – 12th January); sounds a great idea! On a wellbeing theme you may be interested in a walk to blow the cobwebs away; as well as regular free Hertfordshire Health Walks, The Hundred Parishes Society website has an excellent choice of self-guided walks. Why not find out more about all these activities inside?
Thank you to Hertford Town Council for their latest update on some of their recent activities and fundraising news. Dan talks about Christmas surprises in his I Love Hertford column – intriguing – and looks forward to sharing the I Love Hertford award winners in the next issue.
Updates from other local groups include a report from Ware FC on club news and a moving insight into the sacrifices of some of its players in both world wars. Hertford Rotary Club and the Inner Wheel Club of Hertford share interesting event and meeting updates and both groups would be pleased to hear from you if you’d like to find out more about them. All Sorts (for people with dementia to take part in activities) has been involved in a multi generational piece of art representing the area; it looks fantastic. Plus we have information about Fanshawe Swimming Pool.
During December the local Foodbank is inviting us to take part in a Reverse Advent Calendar, where you add one item to a box each day and then deliver them to the Foodbank. They’re then distributed to those in need ahead of Christmas. Additionally, we have primary and secondary school news for you.
The Flyer team would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thank you for all your support and contributions.
With best wishes
