Charity News

We’ve got some great news from our local charities this month.

  • Community Alliance Broxbourne and East Herts AGM: The recent Community Alliance Broxbourne and East Herts AGM was an inspiring event. Volunteer awards were presented to individuals and charities, and the group’s Chair, Jan Wing, stepped down after 14 years.
  • Stargardt’s Connected: One of the volunteer award winners, Bhavna, has kindly shared her incredible family story with us. Bhavna’s family went from thinking their son Ethan needed glasses to setting up Stargardt’s Connected, the first and only Stargardt’s charity in the UK. Stargardt’s Connected supports those affected by Stargardt’s disease, an inherited degenerative eye disease for which there is no current cure or treatment.

For more information on our local charities, please see the Hertford and Ware Flyer Magazine.

Sports Clubs

Our local sports clubs have been up to a lot lately.

  • Ware FC: Ware FC has shared an update that Ronnie, who had been struck by lightning, was recently greeted by his under-13 team mates when he came to watch a match.
  • The South East Herts RSPB Group: The South East Herts RSPB Group have created a Crowdfunding project to help save swifts locally (donations can be made until the 23rd December).
  • Rotary Club of Hertford: The Rotary Club of Hertford has given £1000 each to local charities Mudlarks and Noah’s Ark.
  • Ware Society Town Award: The 2023 Ware Society Town Award (made every two years) was won for the work carried out on Ware Lido. The refurbished Ware Priory Play Park was also highly commended.
